By coincidence i was looking for a way to do this last saturday night, i let the idea go because i was tired of playing around with the transform & wrap tools in PS. Too bad this little gem wasn't posted before. I did something else.

you mean like the paintroller thing in z-brush? or the thing just like it in mudbox? Or the image pipes thing in paint shop pro Or the maya paint effects 2d brush thing that looks just like the pipes thing in paint shop pro?

pisses me off photoshop still doesn't have a tool like that.
Even illustrator has that ability in it's vector brushes.

if you could find a way to make a font out of whatever you wan't to copy along that path. you can then type it along the path in photoshop. thus acheiving the same result.
