Hey people I noticed this "game" by Ageia was released recently, apparently it was originally a tech demo for their physx cards but it is a full game now and can run on a normal pc...

at least that is what I was lead to believe. After an 860MB download Ive found that if you do not have a physx card you will probably experience

1.only 2 playable levels
2.unplayably low fps
3.surprisingly ugly graphics

I still havent seen any people saying how it runs if you do have a physx card but it would be interesting to find out.

Some people are saying that physx cards are becoming redundant with the advent of directx10 and multiple core cpus, what do you people think?

heres the website anyway, it can also be found on gamershell.

I was momentarily curious when I first saw previews for this game, then I found it was just a tech demo for a card that I don't need....lost all interest.

what are your system specs? I want to at least try it, but not if my comp cries when I try to run it

everything that Havok running a graphics card is capable of doing smile.gif

It's a very limited card capable of doing certain 3d transformations in hardware that are used in their PhysX physics software. Someone thought it would revolutionize computer hardware the same way 3d cards did, because they neglected to realize that the 2d to 3d jump was much bigger than the "sliding boxes to ragdoll effects" jump was.

Cellfactor runs terribly, presumably because its calculating 1000 physics collisions every second or whatever with all the random boxes lying on the ground all over.

The graphics were OK but it only ran at like 5 fps on our work computers and yet wasn't demonstrating anything interesting. There were a lot of boxes around. presumably, if you could get decent framerates, you could throw boxes or something.

I feel sorry for the team that worked on this because it looked like they put some effort into it, but no one will ever play it.

Without breaking NDA I can say that PhysX is more capable of anything Havok can (currently) do. I'm not sure what Ghost was playing on but we were getting 45+ FPS with a decent machine plus the physics card. 3D transformations are just one of its features.

However, I'm not a fan of the idea behind it nor the actual technology so don't consider me a fanboy. I'm just saying what I saw & played for many months (CellFactor plus 2 other titles) was more than just 'meh' in terms of the technology being used. It's entirely underwhelming however as good physics don't mean good game.

The only Physx feature that interested me was the fluid solver. Have liquids and gases interacting with the environment would be a lot more interesting that lots of boxes flying around.

I'm surprised they haven't started marketing a card to the 3D artist market. Having a Physx card to preview Maya's soft body simulations and fluid effects before render time would be very useful.

    well I have a :AMD 3500+ 64bit slightly overclocked with a Geforce 6800GT and 1GB ram.

The game runs at about 5-15 fps but most of the time its 5-10 fps.

the graphics arent terrible...just not quite as next gen as I was hoping, the textures seem small and the colour choice a bit bland and theres no AA on anything. The motion blur looked cool but didnt work well with my pc.

Getting a "free full game" that doesnt work does not make me want to buy a physx card, just makes me annoyed. Bad marketing I think.

Ged are you playing the game WITH the physics card installed? Ageia's (lame) selling push was it'd be shitty for those without the card compared to those who play the game with the card. *yawn*

Bit of a vicous circle: few games are made requiring the card, therefore few people buy the card, therefore few games are made requiring the card, therefore few people buy the card.

Videos I saw of the game looked like it could be some fun, sorta blackhole grenades that pulled in hundres of physics objects into the centre, stuff like that. But I think multicore processors and dx10 are going to see off the future of physx cards.

I don't have the card, and I think crysis would run better on my computer than this
