I want to learn a 3D painting program and am currently looking into these 2, just downloaded the demo version of both, hoping to have time to play with them in a week. I'm wondering what everyone's experience with these software were like? Are they worth learning? Which one do you prefer?
I found a few sites with Academic version of deep paint for only $159 and think that's a really good deal

I wouldn't know what to pick actually I only use either or for painting there might be other uses for it like layers ect. ect. Material editing though I don't get into that depth just paint out seams and use adobe.
But worth learning cause they are a life saver at times.
works really well
I personally like working in Bodypaint for most of my stuff.
I personally like BPs ui, nicely customizable. A bit daunting at first, but very flexible. And the brush handling is really nice, very much like Photoshop in some ways.
But I agree it's very much a personal taste issue. Whatever you feel comfortable in (remember, it takes a while), and whatever gets the job done with the least hassle.
Now I stick to Maya : texturing>3dpainttool. It kicks.
It's integrated fully into Cinema 4D now, so you have to d/l the whole thing.
Well.. nice to check out cinema 4d too
His interface is the best one - really intuitive & aesthetic.
Don't forget that Body paint 3 does 3D Painting, Texturing, UVW Editing ....and now there's new as pelt mapping and projection painting.
(I've learned a little bit 3DS MAX just 'cause everyone is using and a lot of game developers ask to know 3DS MAX or MAYA, but CINEMA 4D & BP is my love)
I love this soft and for 600 euros ( BASIC MODULE )
- You can get all what You need for modelling, uvw , texturing and animation.
my work done under CINEMA 4D 9 & BODY PAINT 2 -
