Well my graphics card started to act up. I'm running Windows XP Pro. My card is a Jaton 3D force 6200-256 AGP low profile, and everything works except it doesn't want to install the nvidia drivers anymore. I reformated everything and right now the only thing I have installed is the graphics card. It worked fine, and I think I had it for almost a year now so I'm wondering if it died. My power supply is 200 watts an it's on a compaq p3 650. I got it cause it's the only one that would fit in this Compaq. Getting a new machine is still out of reach. Any advise would be great.

Is it a problem to use older drivers? Because if those installed, and are working, then why spend so much time trying to get the new ones to install if you won't see much of an improvement (if any at all)?

Also, whats the error it gives you when they won't install?

    Go through a checklist:
-Make sure your card is seated correctly
-Make sure its recognized in your BIOS
-Can you see it in Device Manager?
-Make sure you don't have any other graphics drivers installed
-Try to install them while in safe-mode

the driver gets installed. I can see the card installed in the device manager while in safe mode. If I try to install in safe mode windows doesn't boot up in normal mode. I have tried older drivers as well and no luck. My card came with the forceware 91.47 and those don't work either. If I look in the event manager I see a bunch of services and drivers that fail because they say a device that is attached to my machine isn't working properly. I can't get to my pc bios, it doesn't let me. Compaqs. wink.gif Thanks for the feedback.

ok just like with building a new system take out everything and add piece by piece until you find the problem. sound card? extra hard drives can sometimes and only in a rare instance mess things up. cd / dvd drive. sounds like corrupt drivers to me.

i would do another clean install. i do one once every so often like a month to keep my system clean.
