I built a Greenscreen!

Hey guys,

I was inspired by that advertisement that they made for Photoshop CS3, I decided to make my own green screen and try it out myself.

Materials:
Green cloth $24
Green thread $4
work lights (x2) $66
wood beams (x2) $3
Total cost: $166

hours creation: 2-3

Has it worked out well so far? Because that seems pretty cool. The only thing I would suggest is to get a pure white, smooth matte orb, and a pole-stand for it in order to use that to adjust lighting.

That's pretty sweet dude, let us know how it goes. I was actually going to get a painted board so it wouldn't have the creases of the cloth as it tends to mess with the colour key stuff a little. But I guess it just depends on the lighting.

Yea you'd probably want try stretch the cloth as tight as you can against the wall and floor so you dont get dark spots, otherwise it will be harder to key the green. Its hard to tell how tight it is in the picture though, you might already have it pretty tight. Looks nice man

Painting your wall green would be the better solution and the other walls should be black because of reflections!

I tested it out with some pictures and the results turned out pretty well (I will post shots soon). The only issue I've noticed so far is the shadow on the ground between my feet. I wanted to be able to do full body so this had to extend onto the ground.

I looked around on ebay first to see if I could find one, and they have lots of really nice ones. The problem was that many of them did not extend onto the ground and it would have not been as fun as building it. Mine is about 13'x10' with a 4' runner in front.

Those are some pretty impressive results, despite the minor error on your foot. It looks like your make-shift greenscreen will be very useful. Show us some sweet practical applications! I want to see you overlayed over a running game map!

in class it was discussed to avoid that type of stuff the camera would need a somesort of green light system adjustable to make it a neutral color , i tested it with a digital camera but im afraid it costs something like 30 000 euro. ill try to get more on this matter incase you are interested to avoid it using home made stuff.

Okay, update: Aside from being a fatty, I realized I need a stable camera. The crap that appears over my head is the ceiling. The camera was moving so it kinda turned out strange.

Nice dude! Looking really sweet. Sure there are a few artifacts here and there, but that can be masked out by hand anyway if it does prove to be an issue.
