Hi all,
A new beta of CrazyBump is available for testing. If you'd like to give it a spin, please download the beta from
www.crazybump.com/beta/download.html
This version corrects some crashes and introduces some new features.
- Numeric inputs in addition to sliders.
- A "noise-reduction" filter for normal maps.
- New sliders for adjusting greyscale heightmaps. These can be used to make shadow/crevice maps, or to create output similar to the older DisplacementCreator program.
- An option to use your source image as a diffuse-color texture in the preview window.
- The name of the open file is displayed on the title bar.
Thanks for all of your helpful testing and feedback thus far!

Any help i can get would be great, i have been itching to get on this program since the last beta ran out.
Thanks for looking
great work ryan
Thanks for the report. I'll try to figure out what's happening! Did you install the Microsoft runtime that's linked from the download page? If not, please give that a try.
Otherwise, please run the following program and send the output by email to Ryan at Crazybump.com.

I have emailed the output to you.
how do you get the diffuse-color texture working?..I checked it under options but it wont display in the preview window, everything else displays fine
Cheers
Model support or just different prims would be awesome. Also, is anyone else finding that the diffuse color option is lit quite dark? Looks like it's using the "simple light" setup. It would be great to be able to use the colored lights as well.
cheers Ryan, very cool!
I cant run the new 2.6 version of CrazyBump
I get these errors

I am getting the same error, I am running Vista, it apears to be a vista issue. I used to use the program fine in xp.
I've just posted beta test 2.7. I hope it solves the crashes and vista-compatibility problems.
2.7 also contains speed improvements and a new UI for the preview window. It adds the option to toggle between cylindrical and cuboid preview objects.
Thanks for the excellent testing, guys. Please let me know if you see any compatibility trouble with this version!

BTW, I was wondering if the preview shows the parellex bump mapping if I generate the shadow/displacement map? I have crappy VGA card with PS 1.1 so I am not sure if it does work or not. Anyone?
One thing - all that bouncy fancy moving text, squishy buttons and zooming-in model faff almost feels like it's slowing down the program. I don't know how much of a hit it actually is to do all that stuff, but personally I think I'd prefer it if the buttons didn't flash in and out with the stretchy text all the time. Also the way the model swaps out seems kind of unnecessary - I don't really care how the model transitions, in fact, the faster the better - it seems to me it'd be most efficient to have the model preview change immediately from a cube to a cylinder when the user clicks, rather than floating it off screen then back on again. It's a neat trick the first time, but it gets tiresome quite rapidly if you switch the preview a lot. Similarly with all the zooming images.
Maybe it's just me, I dunno if anyone else feels the same, but I think this app would be better if it was just more straightforward and fitted into the whole Windows environment a little more neatly. Custom UIs can be cool, but sometimes I feel they try a little too hard with no good reason
Not meaning to bash your work, I really like the software and I'm sure you added all that stuff for a reason, but it just seems like the app would be better off without it.
Cheers
