sorry about the wait, haven't got the internet at home, and I have exams coming up so I'm busy procrastinating and not doing any revision, really takes it out of you.
I'm quite pleased with the head, but the bottom half is rubbish, I Was going to add muscle definition etc with textures, but I haven't given myself enough to work with, it looks pretty similar to the concept when the tail (oversized to suit the pose) is posed, but the legs aren't really doing anything at the moment, so Im going to redo them, hopefully this time with better planning so I can fit them all in properly
Haha, awesome concepts. Loving the model so far too. When I saw the concept the spikes at the bottom reminded me of legs - my suggestion would be going in that direction instead of making an octo-horse-monster. Whichever way though, looks great.
rough concept,
since I trouble fitting all the legs in, I had an idea to put the legs further up , like arms almost, in case it needs to punch anything or do mime (As horses often do)
Looking good, I love the head. Maybe it would look better with a more dominant head, like in the concept? As Rhinokey said, it might also look better with smaller/pointy legs. I really liked the style of the concept, the model looks more 'realistic' and less chesslike. Just my suggestion though.
This is as far as I'm willing to go with the version with legs, The Tri count is 1844, the total says twice as much because there's the same model on a different layer. I'm not very experienced at UV-unwrapping or anthing, so this is going to be difficult for me.
hopefully I'm also going to try to make a stylized version closer to the original concept as well, I still have the models leading up to this, I just thought that it would be more beneficial to me presonally to try and model something not so simple.
quick question, I Was going to make just a diffuse map and try my best to convey everything I needed to via that, but obviously the lighting would be fixed, would it be more sensible for me to make a specular containing where I Want the hot-spots and to do a lighting setup??,
I like how this is turning out. You've did a good job on getting some of the highlights, but I think area where the ribcage/sides are get lost in the pure black. I think the upper arms need some love too.
Also, I think the mane looks a bit like a cotten texture, and not so much as actual hair (If that's what your going for)
looks nice! love the head! maybe you should bring in the back a little, now it seems very massive b/c his chest is leaning a bit backwards (usually that would shape a hollow back)
hope you get what i'm saying :P
keep it up!
The fur is better ( I used a macro shot of a fake fur lined coat and is covering the unsightly seam on the shoulder.
and the head is smaller, and the back is more "Hollow"
The firey bit on the foot was just a test, and I should have removed it because at the moment it looks like the horse has decals stuck to it, like 'pimp my horse' has got hold of it.
More work is obviously needed on the light sources, I@ve got one from below and above so I can add the coloured tints from my concept.
Crits?
A mate of mine thought I should put plaits in to make it look a bit norse-ey, I have 10 polys left, any thoughts on that, I Was also thinking of breaking up the symettry by messing the fur around and by maybe adding a shoulder peice or belt of some sort?
Looking good. Some stronger red light/shading as seen in the concept could look cool, and maybe white eyes or at least not black ones? (Or some red shading around the eye to define it)
The white thing is a bandagey thing to keep the tail in that position, helps with the fact that without it the tail looked odd, and didn't have as much impact,
haven';tr eally textured that yet, as I haven't been bothered.

testing colour schemes
black one is cooler imo too :>

***Edit***
Right, Question, is there any particular "correct" or slightly better way of welding vertices so that I can reduce the amount of polys in the leg??
I could just randomly join them together, but there has to be a more organised way.
by the way there's some funky unwanted pointiness going on in those pics, which I've removed
What do you guys think? I need to close the hooves off, and I'm still wondering whether I can reduce the amount of polys on the legs.
No smoothing groups defined on the body btw.
Keep it up!

and when I said Polys, I meant tris,
just some baked colours,
I'm getting bored of this now, I'll probably move onto something else, I'm pretty happy saying it's near enough finished though.
*damn transparency!*
I don't know what was up with the last render I did, was very dull,
Increased the lighting, and made the eyes bigger/brighter. the white eyes didn't really work.
Also, just seen the seam in the above render, fixed

it's in my house somewhere, I'm just not at my house.
