Anyone tried this? It's a free standalone UV mapper, with live pelting. The vids are pretty cool. Offers live connection between it and Maya, Max, or XSI. I'll try this out next week methinks.
ya I've been using it for a while. Simple and works great. no complaints. Its just like UVHelp for Max. It works best if you use it in conjunction with a select seams script.
Had a look at this, I use Blender for my uv mapping, which seems pretty much the same as this, but I did like the colours to show how much distortion. Will have to give this a shot at some point.
While there's something to be said for integration, i keep being surprised -in the good sense- by small applications that focus on one area of the 3d-process. Silo, wings, topogun... And now hopefully this. I haven't given it a go yet, but it sure looks amazing. And it's opensource!
This is awesome! It works great with XSI and I love the results. I'll try it with models exported from Silo as well. I feel they will turn out to be a good couple of software. Thanks so much for posting
seems pretty handy, only beef is in maya doesnt look like you can undo your uv generation
edit: I tell a lie! you can't ctrl z it but just turn the transfer uv input to off and you're good.. yay
So I was watching the videos, and I was looking at the pinning feature, is there a way to run that process without pinning and just getting a distortion free map? like in u.v.Help for max???
I don't quite see why I'd want anything else than that for Max7 and up... its relax tool seems to handle nearly everything pretty much perfectly with those settings...
Still, I've downloaded this and will try it tomorrow ... don't really see how it can be a timesaver given that I'd have to send things in/out of Max all the time, and the default relax tool does a fine job.

Mop, Max already has enough uv stuff to make me happy, I was thinking of getting it to work like uvhelp but for maya.
Going to give this a try. I've been using the beta of Headus UVlayout, which is very cool. The asking price for the final product is way too high in my opinion though, so if this is a good replacement then Headus will have stuffed themselves.
Marshall Banana: apparently yes, out to Max/Maya/XSI. Might go out to others via OBJ export, not sure.
Fuse: It's a snippet of maxscript that relaxes the UVs that you have selected in UVW Unwrap.
Paste that line into the pink area at lower left in Max (the Maxscript Listener), select that line of text, then drag it onto a toolbar. You'll see the cursor change to a +. Let go and it'll make a maxscript out of Mop's code. Put a UVW Unwrap mod on your mesh, open the Edit window, select some verts or edges or faces, then click the button you made. Give thanks to our Lord MoP.
I'm swamped, but I like the way Roadkill seems to be an instant pelter/relaxer. Looks like it could be a nice workflow.
Anyone know how to make this work on Maya 2022? the standalone app wont launch
Are there any particular features that haven't already been ported to modern programs? UVing in Maya is fairly powerful and flexible these days, so I'm curious to hear what roadkill had that is still lacking elsewhere.

I've been looking for a simple UV mapper.
That's what's been stopping me from finishing a few models; textures.
Confusing
