Saw this vid while looking at the Red Bear Dead forums. Great CG, excellent camera work, and all the post-apocalyptic love you can shake a stick at.

High def version on the homepage:

Atmospheric and impressive visuals, but not much of a story being told really. Cool though, thanks for sharing.

i'd tend to agree with Daz on this one. then again, thanks for the link to the homepage... it's clear that this short is really a demo reel. this bit from his site says it all:

I gotta say, I don't know what I think about the film as a whole anymore, but some of the images in it are still pretty strong, and I'm certainly happy with the way the film LOOKS. The whole thing was finished off at High Def, and it's been a fantastic testbed for me to gear up techwise, and skillwise for anything almost anything that work throws me in the future. Basically I'm set up to shoot/edit and complete a feature film in high def now, without having to rely too much on anyone else.

what really makes me curious is how long ago this was shot, and i'm guessing a while. since you don't just idly blow up cillian murphy like that with nary a line, not even for a 4 minute short smile.gif or maybe you do, and this is why he's an up and coming visionary director laugh.gif

it must be pretty amazing to go from the world of CG to actually shooting live action stuff and doing what you want (though apparently he cut his teeth on live action stuff with a previous commercial). granted it's apparently been breaking his bank account, so here's hoping one of those scripts he's getting is good and he gets a job. but while i think his future as a very quality imagemaker is set, i think it remains to be seen what he can do with actors. a great visual sense will make a director, yes, but storytelling and getting the most out of your actors will be what really makes the difference. hopefully paired with a quality scriptwriter he can really go places?

and yes, it's a lovely bit of scene-setting and atmosphere. and lens flares! woo! that shit never goes out of style!
