I thought I'd post this here anyway It's plastic but I was working on similar issues as with digital 3D stuff, for example creating the texture.
I was making real rust for half a year and used it on the tracks. Also I used sand to add a dust layer to the model. It's not great, but it was fun to build and I'll make another one for sure
I'm sorry for the bad pictures, it's hard to get good ones. The model only looks good with a diffuse lighting and right now there is bright sun outside.

Cool! Did you bump the panels or were they molded?

Cool stuff. If you're planning on building another one, are you going to eventually build up an army of tanks, or pretty much any kind of detailed model?

Thanks all! I really like it as a change from computer 3D stuff.

@Johny: Yes, I had a lot of trouble with some areas, parts fell off and I had to reglue them, then I had to repaint them and so on.

@IronHawk : Yes, I used sand and glued it on with a woodglue.

@Nogan : I'd like to do some themed dioramas. The next one I'll build is a tiger and then a sherman.

Ahh i've been working on some models like these from Star Wars. Once I get settled in to my new house after I move I'll start showing progress. I am making dioramas and like you said it is a nice change from the normal computer based work.

I get a lot of mine at local hobby shops, toys r us for some star wars ones but ebay is a good bet for some of the hard to get ones. Pretty good deals as well. But hit up a local hobby shop if you have any around you first and if they don't have them ask. They will know where to find them.

[/ QUOTE ]Not sure what glue you used but the best is liquid 'cement' applied with a small sable brush.

I was just looking at some of my old models, damn near 20 years old some of them. Fun times in 'zen' mode.

I got my tiger here: http://www.moduni.de/
But they have a wide range of products to pick from. They are located in germany though, so I don't know if worth to buy models there.

@JesseMoody: I'd like to see one of your dioramas, can't wait until you post some pictures.

I'm gonna post it Hawken, but it's not good for textures since it's in a pot. It's rusted steel wool
