Procedurally generated content ftw! I'm always amazed by how people can make these incredible demos (with sound and everything) that are smaller than a single shitty, compressed jpeg. It's just insane.
holy god on a stick... every time farb comes out with a new demo, I crap my pants and swear they'll never impress me enough to make me crap my pants again... and of course, once again, I need to change my pants.
impressive shit ... at first i thoughed lame its not actually anything getting shattered its just rotating cubes following a a spline path but at the end it turns totally into akira LOVED IT
it almost seems so impossible that whole demo was contained in 177kb but there it sits on my desktop alone, with nothing else. Am I missing something or is this black magic at its finest.
None of the content used comes with Windows and DirectX (which don't come with much useful textures at all). It's all procedurally generated, which is why it loads so long.

Im sure that looked easily as good as environments in GTA4

I'm assuming you never saw the GTA4 trailer. The environments are far nicer looking than this.
This is of course, amazingly well done though. These guys are nuts though, can't wait to see what they do next. Kkrieger was great as well. (It is the same guys, right?)
They've got art tools that use formulas and filters, they are limited in what they can do but the resulting file is very small. Just takes some time to recalculate it.
You people wish for this sort of power, but fail to realize what your wishing for...
The Devil's Taint.
Only through dark, sinister magics, and virgin blood, was Farb able to obtain this...
Power.
You dare risk your immortal soul all for a lifetime of ability?
Foolish.
But man, that was fucking cool.
I used to gape in awe at this 'demo' stuff when it was running on my 486 back in the day. Back then the limitations were that you used conventional memory only - 640k, and of course there was no direct x and very limited video memory in those days. Still as impressive as ever.
It's a shame that 'Mr Average' would look at this stuff and not really see the point - or what was clever about it.
Still - good to see that the demo scene is alive and well.
