Impressive. Maybe the res is doing it some favours but colour me impressed, especially given how big the world is in GTA.. for it to have those kind of visuals too. Looks like one of the very few next-gen games that are worthy of that title.

I love that we get a brand new form of thug. The trailer doesn't give you much, but assuming it's exactly the same game we've played several times now with a pretty facelift ... I'm stoked!
well, somebody over at Rockstar is a fan of the -sqatsi movies/Philip Glass soundtracks, what with the music and the time-lapse Liberty City (!). can't fault them though, it's a good touchstone for the kind of mood they're going with in the trailer.
i like GTA, i think i'll like this, i'm sure the characters will all look weird, but i don't think i'll care cuz it'll just be straight up gansta. i like how liberty city is now pretty much NYC with changed logos and misplaced letters.
To some up that railer for me in one word... excited
There's not been a GTA I haven't like yet.
I know Liberty City is supposed to be based on NYC, but that makes it seem practically the same, even that triangle buildingy thing you see on 'Friends' in between scenes
I have a feeling the control system has received an overhaul though, seeing as its an antiquated piece of shit compared to something like Crackdown now.
Really glad to hear this won't be a PS3 exclusive. I dig the franchise but I never even played San Andreas. Didn't want to buy a PS2 to play it and by the time the PC port came out I'd totally lost interest.
Showed this to a buddy at THQ and he was hating on it. Oh thats pre-rendered and crappy. Whatever. It looks good and I'll be getting it at launch on my 360. Hopefully I'll have a nice big tv to go with it since I'm finally working.
I thought it looked okay; the two places where it stalled to buffer were a bit ugly (docks scene, stuff seemed flat and photosourcey with unflattering normals, and the civilians it cut to for a moment seemed flat) but it's interesting and, overall, pretty nice looking. Character seems an odd choice, though. 'Smuggled people; killed people -- now I get to do it with a free roam inbetween' didn't really compel me to preorder or anything, but I've never been much of a gta fan.
i think it looked pretty good, and there's a reason. gta has always looked worse than lots of other games that it has been released with. it has to. given the nature of the size and scope environmentally....it will never look as good as other games. it's never been about the graphics w/gta games cause the graphics have to take a hit in order to make such large areas. i'm pleased with the new look personally. now all we have to wait to see is gameplay.
I think it looks great, Rockstar has always been about style..
People are commenting that the guy is russian or eastern european, but I am feeling a considerable arabic/persian accent. If he is a middleeatern immigrant it would have been a gutsy subjectmatter for Rockstar, but also a real cool one.
Holy crap, its set in GTA universe NYC, and parts of Queens...and from the places they've shown the world is either really, really, large...or a lot of landmarks squished into a decently sized space.
I think he's Russian, or a country of or near the former Soviet Union. It would fit the trafficking people theme.
Wow, the environment art is really really underwelming. I'm guessing I'm the only one that noticed the horrible real time depth map shadow flicker on everything. This does not raise the bar for open world next gen in my opinion. It's basically one light with bad shadow quality and diffuse textures? No ao, no detail map, no normal map, no spec? Maybe it will look much better as the product nears completion. The Russian theme will be fun looking forward to that.
I think you're being somewhat unfair in not considering the scale of the world malcolm. Like Adam says, when you take that into consideration, I think it's actually pretty impressive. Besides, I see some use of shaders in there. It looks way better than I thought it would actually.
.. I seriously don't see most of the crits in here. Maybe its because I downloaded the hd trailer.. but the shadows dont flicker at all that I could see.. except for the super timelapse parts, but with 2 days passing in a couple of seconds, shadows are gonna flicker.
Personally I think its gorgeous especially given the scale.
I mean I know its not Next Gen since there is actually vibrant color on things and not everything blooms like its a sun to itself, but its still very pretty.

I just found his accent much more middle eastern than russian, because i speak the language myself.
Looks fab, can't wait to play it.
