Hey guys first post around these parts, it seems this is place to be when it comes down to game modeling and animation. I've been around 3dtotal and CGTalk for awhile and have learnt quite a bit.
Essentially we have a bunch of assets all modeled and ready to go, i just want to get the thoughts of all the talented people on these boards. Here are a few renders of some of our models
textures need to get pumped up. i'll pass along a link i got here for some skinning tutorials that relate to this type of stuff: guns & metal texturing
also, i'm just a tad confused; these are gonna be realtime models in a QW:ET mod, right? they're pretty high poly. are you gonna use them to generate normal maps?
hey Criminal Im glad you posted here , also If you've got doom3 or quake 4 open up some of the textures and see how they combine the diffuse specular and the normalmaps to create the effect of metal.
I just had a look at the highpoly models on the site, I think the sniper rifle is awesome you've done a nice job defining the details but one thing thats important in a highpoly model is that you should be able to apply a meshsmooth to it without corrupting the mesh, by adding tight chamfers to all those sharp edges you should be able to get it looking pretty awesome, you may need to restructure some of your edges and create some edgeloops to get them to chamfer properly.
I dont really have alot of experience when it comes to weapons modelling so hopefully someone who does comes along and gives you some decent crits
Kamikaze used a picture of the Aliens gun for it. haha long before i joined these boards But yeah it looks like the alien gun a bit...but hey there is no true concept art for the AX-22 in the Btech universe, so i said do something like the Alien gun and sure enough
