too bad they cut almost all the features that they had originally planed for (vehicles and co-op were the big ones).
But it's still looking pretty nice, hope we get it soon.
Forgot to say, yeah. I'm holding out for more reviews, but I'm also really excited about this game, so far. If the AI works as they've said, and the creatures/anomalies really work with the day/night cycle I'll be elated.
Edit: Did I just say elated? Either way, the game's got zombies, so I'm pretty sold.
Read in PC Zone (I think) a couple of months ago that the guy writing the article wasn't impressed. He said it seemed to be missing a lot of features and didn't seem to be anything special.
The next issue he was able to have a better play through (not having to play selected scenarios like last time) and said the game was great. Many issues had been ironed out and he was shocked at how much the game would let him get away with. Apparently the PR person for the game who was watching was also shocked.
His final review of what he played said it was great. I preoredered last night
Looks like we just snuck in there Mop. The multiplayer demo maps run smooth as silk - of course there's no AI calc or anything going on, but it all seems to be infinitely scalable anyways..Can't wait.
I tried the demo and the levels looked like pure shite. The whole thing looked very very dated, almost like everything was fullbright + a little AO bake. I had all the settings up to maximum... oh well.
I dunno that I'd go quite as far as pure shite, but I wasn't at all impressed either.
I just created a server and peeked around. It suffers terribly from the age old problem of the lightmap pass being 'used up' on the outside of the buildings, and thus all the interiors have literally no lighting or shading at all and look fullbright. Indeed it does look horribly dated. Plus the multiplayer levels are bizarrely ridiculously dark.
The one level with no lighting sucks, theres one redeeming quality to it: the lightning, which looks really coooool, except the normals maps they're using there suck too, so whenever something gets dynamically lit it just loosk really fake. and WTF is up with that ugly detail noise texture? wow its like everything in the game is a 256 and they just threw the same detail map over it. HORRID. Oh well i hope the SP is amazingly fun because really thats the only reason i wanted to play this.
Yeah, the lightning was really sweet, which I found strange. You get really cool lighting for a split second, while most of the game is spent looking at crappiness.
I hold my final judgment till the full game ships, though. I like to give things a fair chance.
On a positive note, the menu UI and loading screens are AWESOME. I love that kind of stuff. The lens-on-a-track effect was really neat.

but i will buy it anyway.. its such a fun to play (as far as i seen and heard it) .. damit.. this reactor is ca 2.5-3 flighthours away from me (it´s like in front of my door )
and whatever .. i like the look of the game a lot more than .hmm.. ut2004 for example but jap .. its dated.. but hell.. i still like the look of hl1
Weird, I thought the lighting in the demo looked pretty good in most areas. If you set the change coefficient to a high number the weather/sun will shift faster, it's pretty cool.
Some of the normals on texture look like an afterthought but most of it is fairly consistent. It's better looking than quite a few recent FPS games.
So EQ (and others who have played the SP), do you think its worth the full price with its dated graphics? Or does the gameplay more than make up for it (like Deus Ex did)?
Also, do they *crosses fingers* speak Russian? Or do you at least have the choice for Russian with subtitles? I really wanted a full "foriegn" effect vs Americanized. (Yea, I like my anime with subtitles)
//Im using my laptop thats screen keeps blanking and have to hold in my LAN connection, plus plays videos like shit, so I dont want to have to do a huge search right now to find these out.//
I havent bought it yet, but do you guys really consider these graphics all that dated? From what I saw it seemed a step above HL2, and I still consider that pretty current gen.
theres some minor graphical stuff that bugs me, but on the whole there are some *very* pretty scenes, and lots of cool crazy russian nuclearz styles.
The fun factor of the SP is reason enough to buy the game, regardless of what it looks like. Really theres quite a few small things that bother me, but once you get farther into the game and start getting cooler weapons and shit things get a bit more fun.
One thing tho, it runs like ass for how it looks. Really, complete ass. Cant even run it maxed with a decent system (7950, a64 4200+, 2 gigs).
Mmm multiple endings.. potential replay value.. though is hokey like deus ex with basically the end level making that choice, or is it what you do along the way that influences it like Slient Hill2?
EQ, if Im stuck with a widscreen and a 6800 gt, should I stay away until I get a better system since you said its fps aren't optimized?

and it rocks realy hard as far as i heard
totally love this game
And that is a bad sign, I think
Well I will wait for the first reviews to appear before buying it.
But it's still looking pretty nice, hope we get it soon.
The daylight cycles sound awesome, I heard during multiplayer the maps will go from day to dusk to night, changing tactics, sounds too damn fun!
Edit: Did I just say elated? Either way, the game's got zombies, so I'm pretty sold.

I got the chance to play it back in 2004, it was good even back then.
The heli pilot puking at the end was a nice touch.

You may have noticed that the price of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl Collectors Edition on the GAME site has gone up to 34.99 GBP
Please do not worry, your credit / debit card will be charged with the lower amount as originally agreed when you placed the order.

Also again, do they speak actual russian?
