Interesting read, and something to keep in mind for people willing to work for free.

    This should go in the Thread of Awesomeness.

    Because this is awesome.

    Besides that though, doing free mod work is an excellent way to get into the industry (so I'm told) since you get more than your work publicized--you learn many caveats of game development and team management and so on.

    But after I'm "in", I won't be doing anything else for free unless I really love the idea.

    I'd say mod work is something different. That's something you're doing for yourself and a team, it's not someone you don't even know hitting you up to get something for free they would normally have to pay for.

    Oohh I see. Now the whole thing just seems common-sensicle to me. A fool gets what he deserves--nothing. Or scorn.

    What they're talking about is completely different than an art forum's contest. They mean more of a 'model this spaceship and send me a 3ds so you can win recognition!' kind of thing.
