Has anyone tried Max8 with Windows Vista yet? I couldn't find anything through searching here. I have Vista Ultimate on order and I'm debating on which machine in my home to install it. I'm thinking my laptop, but that's my main machine for modeling. If there is a conflict with 3ds Max, then it will help my decision wink.gif

I've heard of too many problems with Vista right now. Primarily with drivers and such. I recently purchased a new PC from Dell (totally awesome btw!), and it came with Vista. I spent about 5 minutes on it until I re-partitioned, formatted, and installed XP. Truthfully, I don't see the need to upgrade to the "latest and greatest" windows, especially with the amount of RAM needed to simply boot into your OS.
As far as I know, I have a friend using Max 8 on Vista, and he says it works fine, but he has several driver problems with other devices.

yeah, I'm aware of driver problems in relation to hardware. I was also planning on waiting, but I've come across several awesome deals that I can't pass up ($50 for ultimate). To be honest, I figured this would be the time I would permanently switch to Ubuntu (which would screw me on 3ds Max).
My current debate is to install it onto my MediaPC (because Vista has an impressive media center), my Laptop (which is my modeling machine), or my Desktop (which is my gaming rig).

Possibly run a dual boot setup for a while, so you can test a few things in Vista and update drivers as they are released. So that way you have something to fall back on just in case.
Let us now how it runs when you do get it cranking and whether Max8 has any problems.

I'm using vista and so far I have installed maya 8.5, zbrush, mudbox and photoshop. I have no problem with it whatsoever. Only thing is when installing zbrush the installation process will get stuck at about 98% or something like that but if u just cancel the installation and it will work just fine.

I heard bad things about Max9 and vista. Mostly something about having to disable a windows UI feature so max would start. I think Autodesk was working on a patch for max but I haven't seen it yet. =/ I have no clue about Max8 but I wouldn't be hopeful. I'll be sticking with XP for a good long while until I really need to upgrade or when it is stable...

I finally got Vista installed and running, so I just wanted to come back with an update. I can now confirm that Max 8 DOES work on Vista.... well, it opens and allows me to work on my models. I don't know if any uber level stuff works (like scripts and such) since I still work with the basics, but I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work also.
