I would suggest not to pose as a contest and if you want some one to model skin rig and animate things for your little mod, to ask nicely of what you realy want in the request forum, and paying for it helps even more.

just out of curiosity, what's the going rate for modelling/animating?
Stryer, it depends on whether you want someone to do the modeling for you, or if you just want help in regards to improving your modeling. If you've got something that you want to show off, or need help with, feel free to post it in Pimping and Previews or 2D amd 3D Discussion and we'll gladly help out. If you're looking for someone to model, animate, or texture something for you, for a mod or something similar, the requests section is the proper place to go.
Thanks everyone! Sorry for dupping in the other forum.
Essentially, I am looking for 3d people from modelling, uvwrapping, texturing, rigging and animating backgrounds to help us in a broad Warhammer40k community. We've had many people actually go on to paid jobs using their work created in our community to jobs in EA and Relic/THQ.
This is meant to be beneficial to both 3d artist and community project. The only caveat is that rigging/animating MUST be done in 3dsmax. Modelling, uvwrapping, and texturing can be done with any 2d/3d app. Thanks everyone!

I think he meant people got hired by game companies because they developed their skills while working on similar modding project.
[/ QUOTE ]Precisely! Thanks Psycho!
All the Warhammer40k projects being worked on have been beneficial to both the 3d artist and the mod teams involved. Adding to your portfolio to show future employers is always a good thing!

Shaven are Warhammer Fantasy, not in War40k.

The Hrud used to look like space Skaven: hooded ratment that use warp plasma weapons (warp stones?). But I heard that games-workshop changed their design.
This is a massive opprotunity and challenge to network with fellow 3d people while working on some *very cool* models and seeing them operating in a real-time environment. If you have a passion for the history and art that which is Warhammer 40,000 and looking for a part-time challenge to assist your skills into breaking into the gaming industry then what a perfect way to exhibit and extend your broading portfolio by offering your talent in the endeavour of an ambitious 3d project.
Please do not post if you don't wish to contribute. As you noticed, this isn't a phantom project by a long shot. Its the real deal in terms of War40k. We've even had people go from our community into the game industry. Imagine that..
I have posted samples of the work in-progress AND those completed. Due to the nature and extreme complexities of the War40k universe, there are multiple projects in the genre occurring so you have a choice of projects. I am merely facilitating the options for people to choose their direction. I can provide an inlet into the community and direct your skills where they are needed most.
Jeezz, man. Relax. Did you NOT ready my earlier post? I am recruiting for the general War40k population to which you then can choose what themes you want to go with. I do this on behalf of the various mod teams that represented. If all of them came here all at once it would be a mess. This way, its ONE THREAD. I have shown merely a handful of samples of what has and can be accomplished. THEY ARE EXAMPLES of the work that we do.
If anyone is interested in offering their time and talents as well as likely having their skills upgraded learning new aspects of 3d then you are welcome to privately message me. Thanks polycount community!
I'm sorry, but its hard for most people to be convinced of whatever it is you're really doing, I suggest you show the assets in progress and images of the tools you guyz are putting them though as better examples.
Those ones you have one there are really MESSY as in really gets annoying for people to view them one by one...they are also rather dull in presentation, either fix this or don;t bother wasting people's time.
You HAVE to be joking? MESSY? DUll In Presentation? This is for a PC RTS game, not Oblivion or the forthcoming Crysis. If anything they are on-par with Relic's Company of Heroes and most shots show them ingame.
Further, I submitted them "as links" - I can organize them as a gallery from another site if need be.
As for tools.. Max8 + SP3 is mostly used, CAT 2 or 3 for Max 8 for rigging and Max8 again for animating. Texture maps are maxed @ 512x512. The game cannot use normal maps as it would kill most computers and GPUs with that much detail on-screen at once.
I suppose I shouldn't be putting my 2cents into this, but guys come on! "Messy and dull"? How do you expect him to post pictures? Jeese comeon now, unless you're talking about the actual models, and even then what Thud is trying to present is what finished products would look like ingame for the most part.
I know all these things have allready been answered, but I'm talking anyway.
He's not looking for people to work on one individual product, he's representing DOZENS of Dawn of war mods, My team, The vostroyan Firstborn, Being one of them.
Also, psyko, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he meant that since DOW is a squad rts, meaning that 1 squad of soldiers can go up to 15 guys, and large battles usually end up having at least a hundred and fifty men on screen at one time, having a ton of amazing textures/models what literaly cause your computer to explode. And yeah, as Thud stated the DOW engine is below the par of games like, as mentioned, Oblivion. Though who knows what Relic will do with the next DOW, which is due to be released within the next half a year.
Piliang, I'm assuming you wish to see a few models with the actual program up?
Well I can provide at least a pic of an effect for tracer fire.
Might not be quite what you're looking for though.
oh and btw, If you want samples the Vostroyan Mod has a bunch over on our thread.
So quit flaming each other! We're all here to either get employed or find employees, and we're not going to get anywhere if we keep on telling each other to get the fuck out....
Having sample images of work planned or pre-done will assist people who wish to join the Warhammer40k community two things:
1) It will reveal if the team you like the artwork from has the willpower and organization to see the project through. Too many times we have "visionary" team leads but no will to see their dreams to fruition. There is NOTHING worse for a project to have the skilled manpower but not the leadership to keep it focused.
2) It will allow you to compare your own tastes for art and design and whether you wish to pursue them along similar lines. Most artists won't jump out and do something radical from what they know best but some do want the challenge.
So an image(s) can reveal ALOT of what the prospective project is doing BUT you must be willing to be made available to assist and communicate as much as possible with the team.

Company employees that produced the shipped assets are not working for your mod

Actually normal mapping is used for opposite reasons: higher level of detail without costing more ressources .
