Some really nice details in the armour dude, good to have you on board. I second what Jackablade said about being careful with it looking mechanical. But other than that, great start.
very cool stuff man; looking forward to seeing it as a detail-chocked model. i think you'd benefit from a detail-clarifying paint scheme; you know, like one color covering most of the suit, with a secondary but very attention-getting highlight color to draw the eye to areas of interest, like the face armor and various other good bits. giving the viewer something to focus on will be crucial. you might play around more with the suit wearer's face armor, possibly giving him more of a windscreen type apparatus, because right now as a viewer i look at the head area and want to see something more interesting than i'm presented with. we're only human; when we look at other humanoidish characters, we want to see a face.
so in that face area, you've either got to make the suit-wearer's face more easily visible, or give the viewer something to hold onto in the area other than abstract mech-bits. you feel me?
Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. Thanks Gauss, I do feel what you're saying about the head area - I might need to do something more interesting up there.
Here is my progress on the head geo for the hi res. Work's got me busy but I'm trying to get as much progress going on this dude as possible. The skin on his head ofcourse won't be this smooth in the final version - he'll be zbrushed out, including the armor.
Looking good so far. For the mechanical parts on the headgear, did you also do that in Zbrush? It looks like the whole head is done in sub Ds right now..
Thanks for the kind words guys. It's really helping my motivation The Deadline's coming fast, I think i will need to have the hi res model done by this weekend to get the low res done in time. So you can expect some rapid progress over the next few days.
davision3D - sure! I'll post a wireframe without smoothing when i get home tonight.
japhir- yup, still adding the goggles. I may change their style a bit, maybe make them bigger.
here's an update. It's officially a mad dash now. Wont have time to zbrush the whole model but I'll try and make up for that in texture. I'll post a rotation of the hi res soon as I have all the parts finished. The low res modeling should be complete at about the same time. This last week is going to be fun!
Awesome! It doesn't look like you've got much making up to do, except for the lack of upper legs, Id call that finished!
Be careful that those weapons aren't attached to the character, because if they are you can't use the 1000 triangle weapon budget on them, they have to be separate.
Looking forward to more!
oh wow.. if you have an attached weapon you cant use the extra texture sheet? The gun pretty much is the lower part of the dude's arm.. thanks for the heads up Jaco, I'll check that out.
Easy way to get around it, just make it so he has nubs for forearms with holes so that different weapons can be plugged in when needed. Its the cheap and easy way to have the best of both worlds.
oh lordy! that's awesome!
don't feel rushed though. we just got an extension (yesterday, im sure ur aware?) so u have 'plenty' of time to make ur textures calmly.
thanks guys. Oh yeah an extra week will be pretty helpful. I'll plan to get a rotation of the hi res model up tonight. The low res should be done soon too.
I have to state that the weapons on the forearms (are they weapons??) dont feel intimidating or violent.. or any type of discriptive I can think of for a weapon. How do they work? what do they do?? am I just lame and missed something earlier in the post

good to have you on our side!
that is a cool looking character. nice and hefty. can you explain what he does/what his weapon is? my first impression is, he hammers stuff.
Is that a human face in there?
-Dread_Reaper
Yeah, Nizzi is going to down! Polycount rules!!
Jackablade - yeah, good point about the prosthetics. I'll try to make sure it feels like a suit.
Snowfly - i was thinking that his weapons fire like super heated plasma or something.
Dread_Reaper - yeah, i think he's going to be a human. i'd like the guy inside to look war torn and maybe a little aged.
struve - thanks dude! Day1 Artists to Arms!

Thanks Clee! There's no Zbrushing yet. It's done using turbosmooths and low poly modeling.

and.. another update:

Also, this is without the meshsmooths. on the upper parts.
Looks like a lot of work.

I have no idea how this guy would move , but who cares?! He could go into war and just look at the enemy and they would pee there pants!
