Two movies of the technology behind the game(the Euphoria engine) have been released.Sorry for the dutch link,i couldn't really find it on an english site, but basicly they say what the movies are about.
Next gen Star Wars
IMO this gives a new meaning to "next-gen". Could be alot of fun messing with those stormtroopers ahah.

It looks more like ragdolled models with sticky substance on their hands :P
It's not as if the stormstroopers made any attemps to pull themselves up or grab on with the other hand for a more stable hold on the beam.
The dynamically destructible surface was pretty interesting though
I understand they wanted to show off the breaking and dynamic actions of the stormtroopers, but those beams must have been made out of balsa wood that had been exposed to liquid nitrogen.

Haha! Good point, but I think it's okay to sacrifice realism for awesomeness (in some cases).

as an animator, this shit continues to scare me.

I think you have about as much to be afraid of as modelers do of procedural models/textures... that is to say, not very afraid at all. It's more likely that this sort of dynamic animation is going to be added to an animator's repertoire rather than replacing animators altogether.
Rainbow 6: Noahs Ark!
cant wait!
Edit. Yes.
Some cool concept art.
Deathstar? ALL wood, right there.
Are they actually including any other materials than wood?
The concepts seem to say so. And how does this work anyway? Are those wooden boards actually made out of that many polygons, to allow for the dynamic breaking? Are these models only loaded upon imminent contact with something that could break them, or what?
Seeing as how polycounts have some pretty low since normalmapping, this somehow seems like it'll be a huge hit on performance with little to no advantage to actual gameplay, allthough i realise my guesses aren't exactly official information.
so neat. saber batons!
Yeah the Natural Motion stuff is pretty crap without some good animation layering. Slightly less limp ragdoll basically. If used subtly, it's nice (like a character putting their hands out to brace for a fall, etc).
