We are currently looking for a Lead Character Artist to join our Vancouver studio with the following skills and experience:
As Lead Character Artist it is your job to work closely with all the character artists to make sure they are in line with the artistic direction, vision and goals of the project. The AD will work with you to define what we want to create. The lead character artist will take this direction and see that the goals and objectives are met by creating examples that set the standard and work with the modelers and texture artists to make sure they meet the defined standards and expectations. The Lead Character artist will work with the ChopShop Project Manager to plan out a schedule and overcome any production issues.
Requirements of the Lead Character artist:
Lead by example by being one of the best character modeler and texture artist in the department. This includes:
-Lead the other character artists in modeling technique
-Lead the other character artist in texturing technique
-Be fast and efficient in your work quick turnaround times.
Have a thorough and progressive understanding of all character techniques like polyflow and edgelooping, weighting and texturing shown through executed examples
Be proficient in all aspects of the required software and tools in the character department, this includes a thorough understanding of Maya and our pipeline completely understand every step of the process to get all characters created and working in game

Proven ability to execute realized character examples from start to finish in the defined style and art direction of the game
Be an efficient problem solver
Must drive the character department forward by tackling problems and providing creative solutions to conquer our production problems artistically and technically as they relate to developing all character types
Must inspire and motivate the other character artists on the team
Be able to adapt to the character art style as directed by the Art Director and show progressive results
Work closely with the Project Manager to make sure we stay on schedule and meet milestone deadlines
Work with the Art Director to define the rule book for the character art
The Lead Artist will work closely with the concept & board artists to make sure work is done on time and to the specifications defined by the AD
