Im in... here goes nothin' I'm not very happy with the concept as of yet, so I could really use the input. Ill do some more thumbs later or maybe a silhouette paint over on this guy... anyways, what do ya think?
you seem pretty set on that sniper, perhaps you should nock out a series of thumbs based on him, introduce new elements and see if it sparks off some fresh idea's. He's good but needs more to make it killer!
I agree with Delish. A poncho would be sort of a cool touch. Sometimes you can expand on an idea by rehashing the same over and over again and making small variations. Sometimes a single change can offset the entire thing and take it in a direction you more prefer. Good luck!
(This is my first post. Greetings all, and I look forward to getting to know all of you!)
thanks guys.. yeah I think im gonna keep with the sniper and just keep pushing it.. Heres an updates and some random other concepts I was playing around with
The undead have figured out how to use firearms. We are so screwed.
Not only that, but they're doing it in style!
As for the different heads, I think the one you have no is really the best of them. It belays this sort of acute intelligence even though its attached to a mummy-thing. But that's just my two cents.
im not very happy with this lowres but its a starting point I guess. Something just feels off so comments and crits please??.. oh and I scrapped the highres head. Im gonna try modeling a midres of each piece in an attempt to squeeze as much detail as I can out, and I thinned him up a bit.. just didnt look right all bulky like the concept
thanks man, I scrapped it cause the base mesh I was working off was a little to unorganized to get the detail I was going for. Im moving back to LA tomorrow (if it stops fucking snowing) so it will prolly be a week before the next update thanks for the support!!!!
nooo... a week! i can't wait a week for an update!
seriously though, i'm really liking how this is turning out... i liked the concept from the beginning itself!
just wondering if the face isn't too dense? i mean, it's not like he'll have much lip-movements right?
awesome work though man... can't wait to c the whole thing done!
edit: just saw the z-brushing... so he will have lips! srry... (maybe decay the face a bit though? exposed teeeth and all!
i am pretty damn in love with this guy, he is really cool. there ar only two things that i would say, the fingers seem a little short, and the scope on the rifle might be back over the stock too far. i like it a lot man
This model is really cool, it kinda looks like a ghost from starcraft/a guy with a sink desease/mummy. I really like the fact that he has a rifle, it adds to his character.
My suggestions: I agree with richkid you need to make the finders a little longer, peoples hands are larger then most think. You may want to make the guy a bit more lanky, stalkerish. If he is indeed a mommy snipper, unless he is not that dead (dided a few days ago), then the body would be more deteriated also making him smaller in body mass.
I agree with cridder. If he was dead, he would perhaps be a bit thinner. Currently he looks pretty buff and stuff, kinda odd considering the whole "undead" thing.
thanks guys, ill add longer fingers, thinner proportions and more of a "Undead" feel to him. I'm still not moved into my new place but im gonna try and get some work done tonight in my hotel and post the updates tomorrow at work Thanks everybody for your input.
while i can agree with the sentiments relating to making him look more undeadly, try to make sure you keep the proportions looking dynamic. the high poly sculpt is looking strong and i still love the eye/head so far, but your big problem areas look like the profile and the boots. as to the boots, i know you want combat boots but they've got a touch of little kid/clownishness to them, i can't quite put my finger on it. maybe it's because they're a bit too rounded in the heel or the toe, can't be sure. but that might be worth some refining and extra shaping.
as to the profile, it just doesn't sell the character as dynamically as it ought. leg positioning and shape are a little weirdly, and overall the pose could use tweaking.
but not to discourage; with some tweak and plenty of polish this could come out a very solid entry. keep updating!
thanks gauss, I will edit the boots and try to break up the silhouette a bit more to take away from bulkiness. anyways, heres my update. this is the lowres with the normal map applied to the face. Theres some cleanup that still needs to happen obviously but I just really wanted to get an update out there.
I didnt quit.. I still have a long ways to go on the color map.. including The air tanks; the boots; the belt; holster.. so on.. anyways heres an update
I think the the glows are too intence. Also I suggest that you make the eye brow brighter then the rest of the other glowy parts.
Really liking the diffuse so far. I would give a bump map to the stiching in the red clothing, and the red clothing should be more dirty like the cloths that he is wrapped in.
I think you should post him like you did in your concpet painting. Then use grids to make smoke and shadows (or a fog pass) as part of his display stand. He would look really slick and bad ass.
well... I ran out of time so heres the final still some things I would like to change but so be it I guess. Thank you to everyone that helped get this guy looking decent

P.S. That sniper rifle is awesome.

on yeah and there's no spec maps on him yet
