Gonna try to get something going for this. I'm thinking something along the lines of a reptilian creature with a stance like that of a gorilla, although I'm gonna beef up the arms a bit excessively. Gonna try to give him a double jointed jaw (not sure on the term there) and a nice toothy grin. The skin would me mostely scaley with bone extrutions providing some armor (none of this wimpy mechanical nonsense), kinda reminds me of the guy whose name I can't remember that killed superman. For a weapon he's gonna be weilding a large chained mace. If I have the polys to spare I'd like him to be riding a "steed", since he's got such small legs the steed would help him move around as well as help in battle.

So that's the idea I've got going so far. Did a really rough sketch tonight, will try to clean it up and get it posted tomorrow. Really need to get myself drawing more, I'm so rusty right now.

    how about instead of "will try and get it posted tomorrow," a more resolute "will post tomorrow," followed through with actually posting said sketch? laugh.gif

    So much for getting something posted tomorrow. Did some sketching this week. Had a hard time getting anything down.

    Trying not to have any sort of mechanical armor. With the restricted polycount and the fact that I don't have any high poly sculpting software like zbrush or mudbox so I may not be doing a normal map, I may change to use large boney parts sticking out rather than the small ones I've got going in the sketch. Was thinking about adding set of claw like arms coming off of the back of the shoulders that could be used for attacking when running on all fours, and possible a large sail coming off the back similar to a Dimetrodon to help with heating and cooling of the body since the skin is mostly covered with boney armor.

    Finally got a somewhat whole concept done (forgot to add the second arms on top so I edited that in and I didn't put any of the boney spikes in).

    Wow, looks like you all are as excited about that concept as I was. So I changed it up a bit.

    Currently just under 5k polys. Any suggestions on how to use the remaining 1k, or how to make this better?

    Crap, forgot to add in the armor on the arms, so that'll use a few polys, but I'll still probably be quite a bit under.

    looks some kind of cool and cute.. maybe give him a more defined crotch
    like the arms from the sideview!

    weakest part i would say is the upper body try to give him something more interessting there

    Yea the chest/shoulder area needs something, kinda bland as it is. Gotta think of something. Also gave him a little more of an anatomically incorrect package.

    Put in the armor parts I forgot to get in earlier.

    why waste time rendering GI just to show wireframe ? just make a screensgrab. in those 5 to 15 minutes it was rendering you could have made more stuff.

    Actually those 5 to 15 min of rendering/compositing time was wasted at work, which is time I'm happy to waste. And that leaves more time at home to work on this. smile.gif

    Actually the renders went really quick, 30 secs max. Took more time to put the images together in photoshop and upload than it did to set up and render.

    Didn't have much time to work on this last night, but I made some changes to the mace.

    Currently at 954 polys, so I've got 46 polys I'd like to add to the handle cause I think it looks kinda boring as it is, just don't have any brilliant ideas how to make it better yet.

    Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. No pics today but I am still working on this, doing the texture now. The mace is all textured and I'm working on the armor bits now. Trying to work quickly, lot to go and very little time to do it. My comp caught a bit of a cold this week which definitly didn't help in getting this done, still trying to get it all fixed.

    So this weekend's going to be crazy trying to get it all done. Will get some pics up soon.

    My internet connection went down for a while this weekend so I wasn't able to put up any pics, but that also gave me a little more time to work on this.

    Did about half the texture (all the skin areas) on Sunday, kinda had to rush through it to get it done so it's not as good as I would have liked. Might take a little break from it, but I'm planning on going back and spending some more quality time with it.

    I think you need to concentrate most of the face. The rest is doable, but the face is so good already, I would recommend spending a little extra polish time on it. Other than that, you have done well, scion of Polycount.
