"concepts hopefully by tomorrow"--is that like saying, "hopefully it'll rain tomorrow", implying the same amount of personal volition in the matter?
this is your first post, so welcome. with just about every forum it's going to be tough to find your feet, to get yourself situated in a new community and ingratiate yourself with the regulars... so get yourself an avatar, post a cat picture or two in the general discussion forum, post a thoughtful crit in P&P, and then post some quick thumbnails in this thread here, and you'll be well on your way to being a full fledged and well thought of polycounter. so let's get to it, the clock is burning!
That's pretty freaking good for just a sketch. It's very loose, giving you plenty of room to work with. I like the shapes you have, quite a natural flow.
As for posting a picture, I would suggest http://www.photobucket.com/ It's a free image hosting site without those annoying popups.
That's a very enjoyable sketch. I second the natural flow that Makkon mentioned. I'm diggin the blade thing on his arm, mainly the way the blade is attached to the arm. I also like the little circles that you've got in there. Interesed to see where you're gonna go.
My computer at home's not working at the moment. I'll hopefully get that rectified in the next few days. So, I've just been doodling in my sketchbook and I've found the direction that I want to go in. [image][/image]
I started with the sketch at the top left. The one to the right is a drawing of an anglo saxon helmet and mask and an african blade of some sort. The bottom right is what I'm leaning into. A beautiful face, very innocent and appealing , but it actually is a mask that opens up to reveal what's inside( left drawing ).
I've drawn the heck out of this character, even got a mini storyboard going. I'm gonna finalize the design tonight, make a turnaround and colour studies, get my referrences and start modeling. [image][/image]
By the way, I've noticed most people's thumbnails are up at dominance war site. I don't seem to see mine, can you guys tell me what to do?
first you have to register at gameartisans.org, with remember me checked (dom war site must use this cookie) then when you log onto dom war site, click polycount and there should be a button on that page to join
from there theres your usual info input page w/thumnail stuff etc
Oh noes... more Canadians...
Some great sketches here Raydog... The spider themes very cool and the design is pulling together tighter with each revision... can't wait to see how it comes together:D
glad to see you pull through with such excellent work, raydog! personally, i never doubted you
your handling of both the spider motifs and the female face and figure are both very enjoyable. the anglo saxon helmet is an inspired direction, as well as the always-reliable facade/mask theme generally. puh-leeez keep this thread alive with the quality of content we're now all expecting from you. good stuff!
Just trying to get an idea for colors and form. I don't know, if I'll have time to do the entire body as I'm also moving into modeling this character. Also got my computer working at home, so I'll have more time on this. The colors on this one sort of have a maleficent feel to it. It's the first colors I've tried so far, so might not be the last. Love the concept Raydog. Great pen work and nice work showing subtle emotion in her face despite her mask-like qualities. Looking forward to seeing more.
I've been working on the basemesh and final concept at the same time. I don't have much to show for the base mesh yet, but here's the concept as I've made refinements and will continue to make refinements as I model the character. [image][/image]
looks good, but careful about greebling/squaring and bulking up the armor too much. take a look at your earlier sketches; the ones that are the most successful are the ones that have more of a sinuous quality to them, more spidery/organic. squaring her off with more bulky looking tech bits makes her look a bit too much like an action figure (in a bad way) if you ask me... take that as you will. high time for an update, though; how's the model coming?
Thanks for the advice Gauss. Somebody at work actually said the same thing and I was thinking of it myself, so I re-evaluated the direction that I was heading into. I'm still building the parts but I am going back to my previous sketches and not the latest concept that I posted before.
I've been modeling the parts separately and bringing them in to max to check them out. Here's what I have so far. I'm still working out the headdress, but I'm liking the face so far. There might still be a few tweaks to it, but will see. The upperbody is a little to busy, but I'm liking the midsection area. The last parts that I just worked on were the lower legs and thighs, that's probably why I like them and will probably incorporate that into the arms( although, I did rush through the arms just to get something blocked in). I'm still playing around with the proportions and shape, so things are definitely going to change. [image][/image]
The details of the armour looking very good. You said you still working on the proportions, but it seems that you wont do that big amour parts you did in the concept? I personally prefer the big parts.
