This is a model based off a character from a board game called heroscape. Any crits on any of it i'd like to get it primed and ready for the uv mapping.
It looks okay, but I think you could make your polygon usage a bit more efficient. I see a lot of unnecessary faces, particularly in the legs. It would be great if you could post a reference so we can see what you're aiming for, too.
Other than that, it's looking nice so far. Keep it up.
From just eyeballing it i'd say you have 25% wasted texture space going on there.(green) You should aim for something better.
Where i put some red marks, you could straighten out the edges. On the blade you could make them fit together and then expand the whole blade cluster to fill out that space. (blue)
These are just examples on what could be done. UVing becomes easier with practice, just keep on going.

you should but more polys in the hand to get a better shape...maybe you can remove some polys of the foots
