I got one of those mail-in online movie rental memberships, and I was wondering what movies you guys would recommend, top movies, cream of the crop, particularly those lesser known ones.

Hey, speaking of movies. I'm having trouble remembering this one particular movie. It is along the lines of Layer Cake, and Lock Stock, and Two Smoking barrels. It has a group of guys, that are hit men, and in one scene, they go to this girls boat house to get revenge, she is naked and tries to seduce them, but they shoot her in the head due to the fact that she killed one of there friends. Wish I could remember more, but they are blending together, and I was working so wasn't fully paying attention. Thanks in advance for the help, ohh and my picks are.

Though I have seen Munich, I didn't think that was the movie, wow I must have really been into my work, as I agree Danr, Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels is a completely different move:). I will watch it again and see if that was it, thanks Sa74n, and Vermeulen! Oh, and here are a few more that are good

That is most definitely Munich, Brett. Daniel Craig I think was the shooter. She is naked, on her houseboat, although I don't recall her trying to seduce them as such. Her death is a pretty shocking scene, since it's not particularly quick as shooting deaths go. I don't think the first bullet was a head shot, since she even gets a chance to stroke her cat in between bullets (plus If I recall correctly she says something like 'what a waste'). But the manner in which she was killed really stuck with me.
K, sounds good:) I'll be watching that movie again tonight, as it has been bothering me for a bit on what the hell that was. And Daz, you need to get online more often:) as I haven't seen you on in a bit, and when Dominance War comes online, I want to chat about things:)
Golden Chicken 1&2 Comedy drama, (fictional)story of a hookers life. very funny uplifting movie. Character driven. Not centered around negatives like drugs/hard life. Very unexpected.
Play it again Sam -I love all woody allen movies.
Sexmission (english title) - Futurama, eat your heart out
Rock and Rule - 80's animation. Fighting evil with the power of music.
FREAKS - old movie about carnival freaks, real ones, its not a documentary.
Forbidden Zone -Bizzare Musical, Danny elfman plays satan (minor role)
Ichi The Killer
Evil Dead 2
12 Monkeys

Fight Club
Carnival of Souls (1962)
Black Christmas (1974)

Apocalypse Now!
The Burbs
Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)
The Shining
Se7en
Silence of the Lambs
Fuck, it's turned into a bunch of lists of titles that I couldn't be bothered to read.
Why should you watch Harvey? It's got Jimmy Stewart playing a likeable drunk (that never drinks) who has the entire world figured out with the help of his 6 foot rabbit friend. It still wears the mantle of the play, with a limited cast and only a few sets, but in a good way. http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/m/harvey/
Raging bull - I've seldom enjoyed a film where I've loathed pretty much every single character in it. Nevertheless, it draws you to these people, much like Requiem for a Dream. http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/m/raging_bull/
There's a lot of great TV out there that I'm working my way through. Deadwood is stunning - the acting, scripts, characters, timing and camerawork is among the best I've seen. We got it from our online rental place, watched the first 2 series, then bought the boxed sets. My dad likes western, so I got him series 1. Loved it. Ian McShane just eats up the screen in pretty much every scene he is in after the first few episodes. http://imdb.com/title/tt0348914/
Twelve Angry Men is possible my favourite film ever. I've not watched it in a year, which is a shame. The remakes stands tall beside it. 12 men in a room, arguing the merits of a foregone conclusion murder trial, with one man believing that the frightened young man on trial is innocent, undermining the very fabric of the justice system and its use of witnesses and evidence. Nothing so far fetched as episodes of Boston Legal or CSI, just honest to god acting.
This thread reminds me that I need to watch more Hitchcock, I've only seen Vertigo and Psycho but I thought they were great. Are there any sub-par Hitchcock films?

Good call. Staying on the South American tip, I watched 'The Aura' last night. An Argentinian movie that is just stunningly well made. Unfortunately the director just died so I dont think he'll be making too many more like this:
