take a comb and push it gently through your hair. dont put too much pressure on your head or you might scratch your skin.

Using the high poly hair plug-ins? Or making it by hand using opacity on planes?

high poly hair plugins? is that for models which you use for the normalmaps to render from or is it for cinematic stuff?

It can be used for both, but it is VERY hard to get it to work well for normal maps.
