Wow... that would be awesome smile.gif
Especially this texture creation part. It is really hard to find good tutorials for that

I don't think I'd like to pay for that. What about ads?

Also could you share the tutorial ideas you had? Just curious :P

Yes I am with Pior on this one. With the amount of high quality free tutorials out there the idea of paying just to see tutorials all in one spot is not very appealing. For $0 I can take a few extra minutes and search online if need be.

I would like to see some of your own ideas written down.

I do not see the point of releasing the same tutorial for maya and max at the same time. A tutorial for one is just as good as the other because the translation of technique isn't that much different. Most tutorials will focus on modeling techniques, how to unwrap, rig (only two major difference between programs,) and how to texture. The modeling a texture as I said are style and technique choices that translate the same in whatever program you are using.

No problem Sunchirp - it was more of a general statement than a personal opinion. My point was, since there is already tutorial databases around *I* wouldn't pay for more - if I was searching for something right now for instance.

However the fact that you are a veteran changes things quite a bit. There are some tuts out there taking folks in not so good directions (greyscale texturing as a ultimate technique for instance) hence a cleanup from an industry vet could be welcomed.

On a side note, like everybody else I looked for tutorials when I started but one thing I know is that at that age I was not exactly wiling to pay for internet content. Maybe a format like Gnomon's is successful because there is an acutal physical DVD to hold and store on a shelf... I don't know really.

Whatever road you decide to follow I am quite curious about the outcome. I think that a few well thought tuts could make some good, esp if they focus on the art side of things rather than technical tricks (which are available for free anyways), or maybe both at once, nicely intertwined.

    Good luck!

Flat out, this would not be a lucrative venture. There are to many flaws with the current plan.

Paying for only one tutorial rather then a sub for content means people will be searching threw your site for something they need and then have to pay to download. This takes the same amount of time that searching for a free tutorial will.

Paying for only one tutorial download is risky for the consumer as, what will happen if their download ends up corrupted but they already payed? Thats a major problem right there because on one hand you would be skeptical of people trying to con you for a free tutorial and on another it would just aggravate the patron to no end.

There is already a market foothold by gnomon and others, you would just get lost in the crowd.

Main reason you would end up not making money.
There are tons of high quality free tutorials for everything from.

Modeling (Spline, Box, Edge to Edge, ETC.)
Unwrapping (Maya, Max, Zbrush, Softimage, Modo, ETC.) Each Soft with own tutorials

Texturing (Almost all the artists here have learned from someone in this community who posts free high quality tutorials on this very subject. Or they learn painting in physical form before digital)

Rigging (Once again bundled with the program and talked about by many a 3d artists for free.)

    Animation (same thing)

    3DBuzz= modding Unreal, Half-Life2, Doom3
Each one with how to model, unwrap, texture, rig, animate for video games as well as importing and implementing.

Final verdict, not a good venture.

You will probably hear this same song and dance in every forum you post this at.

Hi, maybe posting links to your existing online tutes would give people a better idea of what to expect from the content? I think I would be willing to pay if I felt I could rely on the content being thorough and high quality- and I could re-download something I had purchased before

I've been tut searching lately and I find a lot of them skim over details you want to hear about. 'This part here was done with edit poly using cut etc, read your max help for details on how to use the tools'- I know what the tools do I want to see how you used them grr
