Crystal Dynamics is looking for a Materials Artist for one of its game teams at its studio in Menlo Park at the heart of northern California's Silicon Valley.

Position Description:

The Materials Artist role works in conjunction with a world modeling team to ensure highest quality as applied to normal, specular, diffuse and other next-generation material texture maps. This is a highly collaborative role that requires a high demonstrable level of organization and communication.

Position Requirements:

# Previous experience as an Artist with at least 2 games shipped
# Working with the world modeling team on next-generation content including: normal, specular, diffuse maps as well as advanced shader-related work
# Familiarity with shader networks found in Maya or 3D Studio Max.
# Experience using Alias Maya, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter and Pixologic’s Z-Brush. # Drawing, painting, texturing and UV experience a must.
# Great collaborative and communication skills combined with a strong creative drive are a must.
# Proven track record of strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize and efficiently meet deadlines.
# Ability to work well within a team environment.
# Must have the ability to conceptualize, present, and execute ideas within a schedule, while actively participating in technical and artistic problem solving.
# Successful team members are able to quickly understand custom toolsets and deliver assets within the confines of real time engine constraints and programming demands.
# Willingness to teach and a willingless to learn
# The desire to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
# Self motivated individual
# Evaluate and initiate processes and features needed to improve and streamline production
# Demonstrate an ability to work with multiple disciplines to meet project’s specific needs.
# Current on industry trends as it relates to advanced material and shader techniques.
# Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
# Demonstrate an organized approach to problem solving and time-management.
# Must have the ability to meet strict production deadlines.
# College degree a plus
# Next-generation development/material experience a plus.
# Ability to quickly master proprietary tools and development processes.
# Understand shading properties, and effects of shader creation.
# Understand advanced material properties as it relates to world creation.
# Possess a thorough understanding color, structural relationship and architecture.
# Strong understanding of HLSL, cgFX a plus
