A friend of mine is re-designing an old project in the style of 'Barbarella' and pulp sci-fi covers from the 1950's (all scantily clad girls in skin-tight spacesuits with fishbowl-helmets).
Buck Rogers (!) was the first thing that sprang to mind, there's a few pics of that woman who was the pilot in the spandex suit and big helmet, might be a start.
Suggest to your friend that he do Image searches using the names of popular science fiction magazines from the era ... like Astounding Science Fiction, or Amazing Science Fiction, etc. Also look up the work of leading artists from the period ... Kelly Freas is a good starting point.
As suggested try tracking down a few Pulp artists like;
- Virgil Finlay
Worked on Weird Tales and Amazing Stories, pretty well know for drawing the ladies.
- Margaret Brundage
Her work wasn't as much Sci-Fi since she only worked on Weird Tales a gothic fantasy mag. But she did draw a lot of scantily clad or not clad at all girls, and she pretty much nailed "the look" and should be good ref.

Not much in the way of Iconic Pulp chicks but searching for his stuff could stir up something...
Gmanx: Haha, that description fits like a glove to one of the character i'm working on right now.
I don't have the character on this computer. Although, here's her sidekick Sputnik, the spacedoggie!
Those last two are from 'www.jamesart.com' who also did the 'Agent Venus' figure Husch linked to. His Photography section has some awesome reference of girls with, shall we say, 'Pulp' figures..:)

I was surprised how infrequent the iconic Sci-Fi chick actually pops up in these kinds of searches =/
In the meantime - thanks again!!
