"Among the many features expected in Photoshop CS3 Advance, due alongside Creative Suite 3.0 in March, are: Vanishing Point 2, HDR support, rotoscoping, Dicom support, 3D file support, and a fast fourier transform filter."
3d file support only in the advanced version which comes out in march.
Have you heard anything else about the 3d file support other than the little blurb there? I'm wondering exactly what it is and I can't find much on the subject.
Ive been messing with it for the past 10 min or so, it's ok, I think the new Quick Selection tool is pretty handy, and smart filters will be really useful (if they dont slow down the program like crazy) But I was really looking forward to hardware acceleration but that doesnt work on XP
Why do companies nowadays think it's innovative and count a complete UI change as a "feature"? I'm just now getting used to some of the shit on CS2 (I moved from PS6 to CS1 to CS2), and then they go and completely change the toolbars around! WTF!
on a side note..
this shit is the bomb.. i mean. its like after effects.. the aplication of filters is non destructive. meaning that you apply filters to layers, but later you can change settings on the filter you applied. just like in after effects:D
Question is, can you map any hotkey to anything yet? it made no sense that you could ONLY use CTRL-key combinations for menu options in CS2, and all the single-key functions (apart from F1-12) were reserved for tools. If you're gonna make something customisable, make it customisable, not the crippled inbred child of customisable.
And have they got instancing layers yet? Like have one layer which you can set as a value mask for another, and paint on one to have it update both? This'd be amazingly handy for stuff like working on diffuse/spec/normals at the same time.
Btw, it looks like for most changes they made to 'workflow' or how a tool works (like i know offhand the brightness contrast is slightly diferent) They do have a "legacy" option
Can anyone tell a little bit about the new palettes? I really just wanted them to incorporate the Indesign palettes into Photoshop, they're pretty nice. This just looks fairly big and clunky. And does anyone know of the uses of FFT as a filter? I use it a lot for audio, but it's usually used to process audio with graphical filters. Would this be to process image with audio-filters? Seems like that'd only give pretty glitchy results. Which is cool, but doesn't really seem to go well with the rest of PS

they also said you will be able to rotate the canvas just like in painter

FINALLY! It's only 6 versions late. I was only expecting a new button skin like the previous versions but imagine my surprise when they actually added something useful. But I can't find any documentation about it so it is more than likely wild rumor.
Maybe they will actually overhaul the brushes and make it easy to apply sweeping changes to a range of brushes instead of going in and setting each brush. I'm getting ahead of myself something like that would have to be rolled out over 3-7 versions.

Window > Tool Presets
been there for a few versions now. I use it all the time to switch brushes.
I seriously despise adobe. I really want to know what the user base is for both the games/film/vfx industry or the photomanipulation industry. I know that theres probably more users outside of the games/films/vfx industry, but i really don't think these updates (ie the last 5) have been respective of that difference whatsoever. I feel that for every 20 updates that aides the life of a "photomanipulatorz!" theres maybe 1 that i would or do use. Its like zbrush/mudbox thing, know your frigin clientel. GAWD i want someone to bury these dicks.

I think they cater to the webhead crowd (and poorly) more than they cater to games.

Excellent, thanks a bunch for pointing that out. I remember thinking that was a wasted of space to have open, as I didn't understand why you didn't just use the regular brushes pallet to load unload presets. Now I understand the usefulness of it and its changing the way I work in PS, in great ways! Thanks you just sped me up, well after I get the presets set up! I would still like to be able to select multiple brushes and tweak one or two settings and have it apply to them all, but this works pretty well as a work around.
The new curves window is cool, non-destructive filters are awesome, and the new windowing system seems nice-ish.
This seems the most feature-laden update so far though, and it's still not excactly earth-shattering, except for the filters. I noticed that they didn't rank their additions to the brightness/contrast highly enough for them to give it a shortcut, hehe.
Oh, and concerning Dur's comments, i'd probably agree if i'd ever had to pay for Photoshop. As it stands now it's a program that's installed at companies and schools that never really changes enough for anyone to require any effort to get 'up-to-date' with new features
how's the performance with the filters, anyway? Since the filter browser was pretty infuriatingly slow at times, i can imagine this not being ultra-smooth either.

seriously
But then.. I'm still using PS7 at werk.
have they anounced any new features for cs3?

came & went? or am I missing something...

they also said you will be able to rotate the canvas just like in painter, if anyone manages to figure out how to do that let me know.

I'd be interested in any updates to their Smart Layers, and if they are cross-file capable yet.
..
edit:
it got busted the video.
it didnt show the palletes properly.
anyway.. how come they are always introducing new ways of blur?
surface blur this year.lol
Neat tip: you can turn whole groups into smart objects and apply smart filters to the whole shebang. Yes!
what hell does cs stand for again?
using the 'make underage porn' filter?

Oh don't be silly, that's been there for ages.
