Transfering MP3's from an ipod to a PC?

Hey hey - I've recently formatted my PC and want to get my MP3's off of my iPod. Unfortunately they're all sitting on the iPod with messed up file names and in stupid folders like "F5" folder and "FUD6" file name. Nicely done, Apple.

Anyone know of a good, free, transfer and converter? I can copy the files off no problem, I just need it to convert the file names properly.

The easiest way I found to do it on a PC was just to plug the iPod in, copy all the music folders to a temporary location on your PC, then set iTunes to keep your music organized, add the temporary folders to the iTunes library and it sorts everything.

in backing up my mp3's i just use it as a harddrive. Nuke the ipod's directories, and copy the files over manually into your own directory. quick and easy.

i tried using some 3rd party programs to get the mp3's off of the ipod, but they never worked for shit. So i opted for the HD option

I use copypod because it's the only one that I know of that retains ratings.

i think the latest version of winamp can do this. i'm not sure if it'll give the mp3s a good name though.
