Maya8 high quality rendering not compatable

I've reformatted my computer, installed Maya8, and have updated my video drivers. However, when I attempt to view a normal map in High Qaulity Rendering, the little pink dialog box in the corner says that my video card does not support it. This is bull crap, because before I reformatted I didn't have this problem and was able to view them just fine. I don't know what the problem is. I have a Radeon9800Pro, and I was curious if there might be any sort of plugin or driver that I may be missing, if anything at all. Could you guys help me out? If not, is there a tech-forum that might be able to help me with this issue?

Maybe you are trying to use a SM3.0 shader?

What's an SM3.0 shader? I get fuzzy results looking it up on Google. Is there any way to change certain settings so I'm not using this shader?

SM3.0 is Shader Model 3.0, sorry cant really help with Maya.

A 9800 -should- be able to support Maya's high quality rendering, but I don't believe Maya officially supports Radeon cards. Perhaps you were using an old driver that worked fine? You might want to roll back a couple of Catalyst revisions and see if that works.
