Comment and request: Instead of making "scene" a stipulation, we might get more entries if people can make either an environment, a character/creature or a mix of those rather than having to do everything ... someone whose environment work is awesome but isn't confident about characters might get put off if they have to do stuff they don't really want to, etc.
Just a thought, I understand if it needs to be more consistent for judging, though
I had a good idea for an entry, but it was not a scene, nor family friendly, just sayn others might have felt the same I still might enter if the rules become less constrained
I'm fine with requiring a scene. Christmas lends itself well to scenes, rather than isolated characters. And the previous challenge was for a stand-alone character, so this keeps things interesting.
But I'm not so sure about the "family friendly" stipulation. If I'm making a scene about "Christmas gone BAD," there is going to be something happening that you wouldn't want yung-un's exposed to. If we're talking no boobs/genitalia, I'm fine with that. But there's almost certianly going to be some blood spraying around here. (possibly a little dismemberment)
Um technically couldn't a "scene" be comprised of a character on a stand/background? I mean you could get away with just having the non character parts of the scene be using 6 tris, or 4 even, and paint those with a properly tileing texture or something and its still a scene.
2) You can use anything you want in your scene (props, characters, etc). The only limitation is you must be under or at the polycount for the entire scene. The polycount limit will be 6000 for the entire scene. (This may change a bit, I have rushed the rules out...)

I was actually using the word "scene" loosely and should have probably been a bit more clear. I apologize for that. So in answer to the question, if you want to just do a straight environment piece, that's cool. If you want to collab with someone, that's fine as well. If you just want to do a character on a platform or something, awesome. I tried to leave it as open for interpretation as possible.
The only request I have is that if you do a character, try to give it some sort of surrounding scenery that adds to the piece in some way and not just a Santa in a thong in the DaVinci pose rendered on a grey background.
When I say "family friendly" I mean a little nudity is ok, violence is alright, just no animated scenes of things like Santa plowing Jesus while an elf blows him or something. ;]

Maybe I will just draw a concept and leave it at that, someone else can model it if they want
nudity IS family friendly! How do you think families are made?

Nice one!
I want to set Santa on fire... That's not very family friendly... Fuck it, he's still gonna burn!
