Latest update PDATEDwednesdayDec13, gogogo
yo first post.
Here's a creature model i've been workin on. He's gonna be zbrushed/normal mapped. I'm trying to be conscientious about the topology so that he's animation friendly but I don't know if im succeeding; especially on his head where it meets the tentacle.
What do you guys think? feedback on anything would be greatly appreciated
heres concept sketch

[edit] Ah sorry, see you have one posted, I'm just having trouble downloading the whole image... looks cool, gotta add "cave-dwelling" to my earlier guestimation.. heh, cool stuff![/edit]
You might want to spend some time checking the topology and make sure everything that can be quads is. I see a few areas that might give you fits when you start to sub divide the mesh. It would be nice to see some smoothing groups used, its not necessary for what you are about to do but it might help present the model a little better.
King of Daveness: Yea definitely, I have them modeled in now but they're going to be added after just cause their only 3 poly's a tooth so they aren't subD friendly.
Warhawk: thanks! I took your advice and added more poly (around the barnacle things goin up the middle.)
Vig: thanks. I do have a few tris on his feet but I put them there to help with deformation later on for animation. Are you suggesting that I keep everything as quads for bringing into zbrush and then 'tri' up when the normal is done?
Oh and about the smoothing groups... I'm a maya guy. It seems like we're few and far inbetween in these woods
MRFlynn: I'd love to animate her but I don't think I'll have time since my demo reel is due very soon, but thanks!
brought into zbrush, roughed in shapes, started playing with alphas -they're fun :]
Do you guys have any suggestions how to make her more "beach dwelling" like? I have barnacles on her back and her body is going to be crab like; what else can I do?
What do you guys think about the update?
He's lookin really good! His back definately reminds me of a crab. I especially like the details where his limbs connect to his main body/shell. His neck in particular looks really awesomee.
I'd like to see some more definition in his tentacles, They don't shine as much as the rest of him. The barnacles on his legs need some more hard edges too, they still have zbrush softness syndrome, unless they're supposed to be little suckers or something.
Asmuel: just for you,
Miguelito: thanks!

Sha-wing!!!
lol thats hilarious, Im glad you can take a joke. Looks cool to me I like the eyes also good stuff so far
Miguelto: she just wants to play and be friends :[
update: color and spec, still tweakin them and my lighting is kinda gross.. same with the weighting.
The eyes look stuck on though, maybe some different colours around the eyes will help. It also looks like she has been brushing her vagin- I mean teeth too much , darken them up a bit, and add some crusted blood!
