A good friend of mine recently got himself a Roland Fantom-X8 keyboard, and is writing up a few songs on it (for me and for himself), and we're both a bit stumped as to how we're gonna get the songs off of the keyboard. I can access the keyboard via a usb cable, and I'm able to get at what we believe to be the song files, but I have no way of playing / converting them off the system. They're saved as .svq files, and for myself I'd like to get it converted to an .ogg for use with Unreal Tournament; he'd like to get them to a standard audio file (.wav or something similar) to put to cd. Any help would be greatly appreciated. smile.gif

    found this out....
You need to Mix the SVQ in your sequencer. on the FANTOM X8 is a sequencer that you use to create the SVQ files. you have to "mix-down" the songs and it plays through the track and re-enters the whole song into one of the Audio tracks and saves it as a .wav file. From there you can USB it over to a PC.

Can't you save the file out as midi (.mid) file directly from your keyboard?

he could but then any specific synth sounds used on the keyboard would be lost, it would just be the raw musical data. so if he has it sounding the way he wants it would be pain to try and emulate the synth sounds.

That's a nice looking controller. I wish I could find a shop around here that carries it so I can demo it as I'm looking to replace my old Kurzweil.

Err, isn't that a workstation, rather than a controller?
And i'll second that suggestion, kvraudio's great.

Sledgy, which controllers are you choosing between? I want to get one as well, but the only one i've found so far with enough knobs on it (teehee, knobs) in my pricerange was the Korg mikrokontrol, and i don't know if i'll enjoy the smaller keys.

edit: oh, and which host d'you use? I'll use this opportunity to pimp the Silo of Audio-hosts: xt-hq.com
Really cheap, developed by one guy at a great pace with regular updates, and it's got a 2.0 coming up.

    Yeah workstation smile.gif

I've tried out a few various ones at local shops but I haven't been able to demo one with the same action and key spacing as my Kurzweil PC-88 other than the Kurzweil PC2 (although I haven't had a chance to find or demo the K2600 which looks nice) I have big fat farmer fingers so i need keys that are a hair wider wink.gif I ran across a Roland at a shop (I forget which model) that had the same spacing but the weighting felt weird and unpleasant. I've just been using Cakewalk 9 for awhile now...thanks for the link! That looks pretty functional and the price is right up my alley smile.gif Demos are always more welcome than slapping down several hundred dollars only to be disappointed.

    Toomas: soundbanks?
    Are you talking about soundfonts?
The only use of the word 'soundbank' i'm familiar with is as a sampleset for a sampler, and i can't see that working, especially if there is any sort of parameter modulation or automation going on.
