Why do you have 3 cuts along the barbed wire when you don't seem to be overlapping those UVs?
Also I didn't notice you used a normal map for this until I saw it in the corner. I'm not sure if it's because of the lighting you setup or what, but it didn't stand out much.
yes, there are alot of unneeded edges, here is how it should be:
The posts don't need to be extruded from the base, I created the post and intersected it with the base, I also delete the bottom face from the post and the base itself.
I also think if you decided to to cut the base into two parts, and the chain into the 3 parts as you did before, you should be able to drastically reduce the texture. At least a 256x256 maybe
this is wierd, i did the same thing you did justin and yet i have a higer poly limit?i didnt extrude my poles either i intersected them
i see i dont know how this happened but when i attached the poles to the barrier mesh for some reason i accidenly had copied over the current mesh so i attached 2 meshes together without knowing fixed that the polies is still a bit high 116 but there might be some thing i missed.

Personal Work:
these models were all made for fun. Teh textures were made for practice, and the isa soldier was made in anticipation of the release of killzone liberation. I made the sumo bag because i had just recieved one in the mail for winning a contest over at moddb and i loved it.

Wicker Gun:
The wicker gun was made for a ww2 scene that a friend was setting up, half way through uvmapping my friend scrapped his project. i never finished uvmapping it i might some day.

Low-poly weapons:
I made these 3 models for fun, the idea of making really low-poly weapons was in my head for awhile so i decided to model them.
