Sr. Effects Artist
Job Location: San Francisco, CA
Job Purpose: Designs and creates in-game and pre-rendered special effects and post production work.
Responsibilities:
Creates visually exciting real time and pre-rendered 2D and 3D effects that follow the established art style, and work within the technical constraints of the game engine.
Work with rigid/soft body dynamics, particles, and shaders to simulate effects of explosions, smoke, fire, steam, fog, etc.
Develops appropriate production workflows and tasks by working in conjunction with the Art Lead. Understands the game engine limitations leveraging the game engine whenever possible.
Identifies potential issues during pre-production and participates in problem solving and creation of tool pipeline. Works to solve high level technical post-production issues.
Maintains an excellent understanding of the tools and software used in the production of special effects and compositing. Ability to use and help develop proprietary tools.
Oversees and performs post-production compositing of image sequences.
Excels as a team player and strive to maximize team performance.
Qualifications:
BFA or equivalent degree with a portfolio that demonstrates high quality real time and rendered special effects and compositing.
4+ years production experience with special effects, post-production, and problem solving.
Extensive expertise of 3D graphics, particle systems, dynamics, and shaders.
Strong knowledge of one or more major 3D animation packages, Maya preferred.
Strong knowledge of post-production and video editing software, After Effects preferred.
Computer scripting/programming experience.
Self motivated. Keen ability to identify and prioritize project tasks and deadlines.
Excels in producing top results within a team environment.
Must be willing to work overtime when requested.
