Sr. Art Technical Director
Job Location: San Francisco, CA
Job Purpose:
Solve technical production issues, define work flows, streamline processes, and develop tools/frameworks for art.
Responsibilities:
Develop appropriate art pipelines and workflow, working in conjunction with the Art Leads and the programming team. Set framework for manipulating the art easily and efficiently.
Solve technical production issues.
Streamline art workflows and pipelines.
Work with programming and tools teams to develop tools/scripts/plugins to streamline art processes.
Participate in pre-production planning to determine and address technical design requirements and issues.
Create technically sound art and art frameworks.
Mentor and train others in areas of expertise. Train Technical Artists in the skills necessary to execute the art path efficiently.
Excel as a team player and strive to maximize team/department performance.
Performs special tasks as assigned.
Develop an area or multiple areas of expertise.
Areas of Expertise
Here is a breakdown of potential areas of expertise:
Modeling: Develop tools, streamline modeling processes, handle complex modeling and texturing issues. Perform model setup and controls.
Character: Focus on character skeletons, hair, clothing, skinning, joint weighting, and character modeling. Develop character tools and UI for animators.
Animation: Develop workflow, tools, and UI to allow animators to focus on animation. Handle constraint issues, cycles, and complex animation.
Effects: Work with rigid/soft body dynamics, particles, and shaders to simulate effects of explosions, smoke, fire, steam, fog, etc.
Mocap: Define and streamline data pipelines, solve mocap issues, import/edit/export data.
Qualifications:
BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Graphic Art or a related field.
Computer programming/scripting experience, C++ and Perl preferred.
4+ years of production experience
Background and understanding of 3D graphics
Strong knowledge of one or more major 3D animation packages, Maya preferred.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Work well under deadlines and multi-tasks.
Must be willing to work overtime when requested.
