GPS on PSP worthwhile?

i'm very happy with my (modded) PSP here. all i've really been looking forward to for quite a while is the GPS receiver - to use it as a car navigation system, of course.
does anyone have a clue, when and at what pricepoint we can expect the receiver (PSP-290) to show up in europe, with decent navigation-software, hopefully?

i'm close to just skipping on the damn thing and getting one of those standalone nav systems - just saw/used one in action and decided that i want one, soon!

I was gonna consider getting it, but since I got MS Streets & Trips 2006 with a gps locater for about $80, having it on the psp seems pretty pointless. (Granted, I shelled out for a laptop, but you can get an old-as-all-hell laptop, slap on an OS, and run it on that.. probably for less than a psp).

nah, i want something small and slick, not a whole laptop.
my biggest concern over GPS on PSP is that their nav software might be just some funky looking toy.

a bunch of fancy new verizon wireless and sprint phones have GPS built in and it's supposed to work pretty well.

It'll probably update your firmware. Is that something you want to risk?

experience shows that it doesn't really take long for the hackers to catch-up these days. since we're able to boot into several firmwares on the same machine without having to flash now, i'm not really concerned about it anymore.
