Hello all,
I post some nex-gen model made in class for training.
Should I say it is a dead tree on top of rocks.
You can also find a video of it to see the normal mapping
HERE
I still have to correct the diffuse(details, cracks, dirts, bark, shades, etc) and the spec textures, because it was made in 8 hours...
See you...
PS:
no more joking about my french mentality

i agree with Ninjas that the specular is way too bright on both the tree and the rock... also your diffuse textures are lacking colour and saturation variation, they're very monochromatic at the moment.
also, the edges between the roots and the stone need more definition, they're kinda blurring into each other at the moment.
not a bad start, just put some more effort into the textures and it'd be much nicer.
Anyway,It will be changed soon,...
that's a shiny tree. where is the dirt?

perhaps thats why its a dead tree...?
id add a traffic cone or bog roll for that extra realism.
More importantly seeds find their way into cracks as they are blown around by the wind. A seed findings it way to the top of a pointy rock staying there long enough to germinate... not very likely.
I would do like MoP's suggestion and bring the roots down into some of the cracks. I would also use the roots to add a touch of "drama" to the scene and have most of the roots actually holding the tree on the rock like it was refusing to be pushed off until the bitter end. Nothing too over the top mind you, just something that doesn't look like a tree formed out of rock or just happened to land on a rock after years of growing somewhere else.
