That is very impressive. But yes, watching this game being played on an actual PC or console is what I'd like to see. They're doing a good job with those assets though.
But you know what? I'm sure whatever id has in store for us, Epic is already planning on outdoing. It's a vicious cycle. But as long as it's their we'll always be seeing awesome engines. Now...where's my fucking virtual reality already?!
yeah i cant wait till reality is achived either so we can move on already. reality is played out, i have to walk around in it everyday for christ sake, last thing i want to do is come home and pretend to walk around in it.
Hmmmm, these shots mimic the reference shots really well but the reference shots have a very specific light rig. Shadows are not always crisp and black so this tech really only solves one very specific time of day and sun direction. Looks like the lighting will fall apart at night time or an over cast day or indoors. What happened to their "real time ambient maps" <-made up word that they were bragging about in that indoor tech demo.
looks amazing though! Funny how the closer something gets to reality, the more each little flaw shows. Looks amazing though, can't wait to see more of it.
This is mainly just showing that they can photosource well.
Shame the screenshots are so tiny too, doesn't really show much other than the general composition and colours are the same as the reference.
Their real-time vehicle shader demo was more impressive to me.
Malcolm: I believe they're still doing their "dynamic" baked ambient lightmap things, but only for certain rooms (ie. ones with lights that can swing).
I know someone who saw this running recently and he said it was 10-15fps maximum, even on a very beefy demonstration PC.
Plus, from what I've seen of the gameplay videos, it's a distinctly average re-hash of most existing FPS games.
Damn, that is really cool looking MoP. It makes me wish I had whatever shader they're using for Max. It also makes me feel like I have a lot of research to do on newer 3d tech.
I've been more impressed by the videos than these lame comparisons, to be honest. They hardly show us anything, other than --as mop said-- that they could match the colours somewhat acurately. Also, you'd think people would use this technology for creating something you can't see in everyday life, instead of just painstakingly recreating reality. That's just me though, i don't see the use in that, most of the time.
