http://gamepolitics.com/2006/10/14/more-mainstream-bully-coverage-miami-herald/

so if you haven't been following the recent jack thompson news, this link should fill you in on his current escapade. i'm sure people are tired of hearing about him, i know i am.

what prompted me to make this post was the last sentence of the GamePolitics.com post:

[ QUOTE ]
Thompson objected to Take-Two employees showing the game on the basis that they could have avoided the game’s more violent content.

[/ QUOTE ]

an interesting concept is highlighted here - a user choosing to avoid violent content.

[ QUOTE ]
"You did not see the game. You don’t even know what it was you saw."
-jack thompson

[/ QUOTE ]

you just have to love the irony of that quote.

Yeah I read that article on the BBC. Thompson's quote is just awesome. It's like a line some B-movie baddie would throw out.

Would be great to see jackyboy get countersued (slander or something). I'm sure the company suing could raise a fair bit in the way of funds with paypal donations smile.gif

Jack is the plaintiff in this case. He has essentially lost the case. I may be wrong, but in cases like this, the plaintiff can be liable for the legal fees of the defendant(s). Considering that all three defendants in the case are major corporations, Mr. J. B. Thompson could have to come up with some major scratch this time around.

Furthemore, he is continually suing the same people in multiple states. At a certain point, this has to constitute harassment. J.T. isn't some poor person being victimized by the man. I'm hoping that at some point, one of his regular targets has the cojones to countersue him for harassment, wrongful prosecution, or malicious prosecution.

"as requested by controversial attorney Jack Thompson."

Hahaha, that makes me laugh. It's gone from "attorney Jack Thompson versus controversial game" to "Game versus controversial attorney Jack Thompson".

Yea, this stuff is getting dull though.

As for the harassment or slander, Rockstar is gaining a lot of attention, and they might just benefit from all the commotion. I'm not even sure they WANT to discourage Thompson from doing all this, so they might not countersue him...

... Think he's on Rockstar payroll?

as ComradeJ says, Rockstar or take-two counter suing him would probably be bad publicity for them, whereas winning against him is good publicity, makes him look like even more of a nutter.

I think we're going to have lawyers vrs the gameindustry things going on for some time...I'd rather have Jack Thompson, a man who has proved his incompetence repeatedly, than someone who actually knows what they are doing in the opposite corner.

Hawken ... in the most recent case, Take-Two and Wal-Mart may not even need to sue Jack. US law provides the opportunity to seek compensation for legal costs in such cases. The ESA has already sent bills to a couple states for their legal costs striking down unconstitutional anti-game laws. The bill has been roughly $500K USD each time.

EDIT: I've also been hoping for Jack to take Microsoft to court. Microsoft has a tendency to swat biting flies. Hard.
