Phantasy Star Universe anyone?

Even with the Dead Rising style not-so-next-gen graphics and the very marginal improvements over the last offering, I am really enjoying the beta I downloaded on the 360 marketplace last night.

Is anyone else going to be picking this one up? For mindless online console fun, it's a winner in my book. Very addictive so far.

I totally dig Phantasy Star, and I passed on the PSO games for last gen, but I really want to give this one a shot. Unfortunately I don't have a 360 yet, but that may change very soon, with this and Gears on the horizon.

I'm one of the many that have the 360 beta and are not able to connect to the game servers.

Happened to me too, you just have to keep trying and trying, at one point it'll let you in.

I found out that if you MANUALLY CONFIGURE your DNS, yes, you heard me, you can get in.

Hopefully that is just on the beta, otherwise Sega have utterly fucked up.

Anyway, after trying for 2 days, I read that tidbit, queries my modem/router, dropped them into my config screen, and it worked.

Since I don't have a 360 and can't play the demo/beta, what's the gameplay like? Does it play like PSO or does it use a different system?

Rick's right. It's a slightly faster paced version of PSO with a far more complicated UI than it needs to be and a nice partying system where you can jump in and out of games without having to scream 'looking for a party' all the time. The best part of the whole thing in my opinion is how little downtime there is between you and whacking some mobs. I'll likely get it when it comes out and play it for a few months.

Dead Rising may not be the best next gen looking game around, but I would LOVE to see any system handle GoW style visuals with THAT MANY zombies on screen.

Dead Rising, for what is there, is stunning. The models are fantastic. The zombies may not be the best, but damn, is there a lot or what...?

There aren't that many zombies on screen - maybe 6 or so models with texture swaps. They'll be lodding the distant ones in polygon count, bone count and animation.

The enviroments are actaully tiny (and/or undetailed) in Dead Rising. You know the environments are small because they keep loading the levels in in chunks, Resident Evil style.

So do most games involving large numbers. I don't think that's bad, after all even next-gen isn't an excuse to waste performance.
