in max if you cut a shape into a poly, the resulting shape is transferred to the uvs and you get no distortion. When I cut a shape into a textured polygon in maya (not just a single straight line) it wrecks it.. is there any option, or plugin, that fixes this? its going to be a real pain in the arse if I have to make every cut a single straight line, then clean up the unwanted cuts each time..

the split polygon tool shouldnt distrot your UV's thought. Only when you move the edge after the cut. How are you going about this?
Version 7> preserves uvs, probably version 6.5 also.

edit: if you look in the uv editor it has cut a straight line from the first point to the last ignoring the middle one
