Challenge #30 - SF Redesign - tim - Ken

I always thought of Ken as the "American Ryu", despite his largely Japanese heritage. Ryu was cool - Ken was lame. Ken was Ryu except he wore pink (well, red, but on occasion it definitely carried a pink hue). Later on he got his own moves, but I've never liked playing Ken. Hence, the redesign.

Basically, my Ken will be older, wiser, and much better dressed. I'm thinking jeans, a t-shirt or undershirt, and a leather jacket. Maybe a cap as well. In true Pior fashion, I've started with the texture and will soon start modeling.



It's not as Japanese as I'd like yet - the nose especially is very Caucasian - but I've been referencing pics of Beat Takeshi and I want to pull off a more somber appearance than usual. Tying him to the original character will be his blonde hair (possibly with dark roots showing), hulking build and probably plenty of red in his clothes.

Well, he's 3/4 Japanese, 1/4 Caucasian. I want to stay true to the character in that respect. What I meant by "American Ryu" was that he was always fighting in US tournaments and seemed like a less Asian version of the character (where Ryu was all about dojos and honor and such, Ken was more interested in winning and personal gain at first).

I want him to look mostly Japanese, but only in a racial appearance, not in a cultural, stylish way.

You seem to be doing some "Solid Snake" thing to him. Old, wise, and deadly. Im very interested, since Ruy and Ken are the most boring and vanilla characters in SF.

Well well. Finally getting back to this, I'd given up on it but now with the challenge extended and more time on my hands I'm back in the game. I'm changing things up a bit, my Ken won't be too much older but he'll be wearing street clothes and will hopefully look a bit tougher. Here's a shot of the head (wip).
