fordy--try system shock two, its about the same graphically as deus ex, but its more scifi+horror instead of scifi+conspiracy
Has similar RPGS elements..and the further you go the crazier the story gets.. I played it for the first time just last year and was impressed with some of the stuff they pulled off...a lot of that stuff you dont see in games NOW, practically a decade later...
it does take a few hours to get used to the slower-paced engine (I think its the thief engine), but if you're a fan of deus ex, that might not be as big a deal.

Thanks for the link, Rooster - never heard of that, but it looks awesome.
Reading through the games you guys mentioned makes me think of another point. I missed the original Fallout, just never had a copy around, so I know it's a great game only by reputation. I'm not interested in downloading an antique game with low-quality graphics just to see what I missed, but I would definitely buy the game if it was remade with modern technology. Think of how many games could be re-marketed like that, just giving classics a huge facelift.
I forgot to mention the 'virtual' 3D Tex Murphy games from Access Software. Absolute classics, and I'd love to play Under a Killing Moon again if it wasn't 12 years old!
Deus Ex 1 and System Shock 2 are particularly incredible in that they're such similarly engrossing FPS games, with very similar styles and released less than a year apart. Even the design style and artistic direction look nearly the same. If you liked one, you'll probably like the other.
Im sorry, but Deus Ex graphics looked much better than System Shock 2s. Yet even at the time Deus Ex graphics werent cutting edge, and as stated they were only a year apart. Those polygons for the nose always bugged me in SS2. SS2 also wasn't a living breathing world where you had your own choices in morality, it was a dead ship.
Game design portions may have been similiar in some ways. The games sure didn't "feel" the same. In fact, I would go as far as to say that SS2 bored me. Yet, I can play Deus Ex again and again.
I would be tempted to say of all things that Postal 2 is a closer game to DX than SS2 was.
People throw SS2 and Deus Ex in the same boat for the fact that they had VERY similar inventory systems, and in both you "purchased" special abilities, as well as leveled up with certain attributes.
Kid Chameleon
Bionic Commando - Doesn't need a jump button - fooey
Final Fight (wouldn't mind a gameplay tweak on this)
Blast Corps - Can we say Xbox 360?
Streets of Rage - Sega has tried to do this for years (Die Hard arcade, Dynamite Cop)
DnD hack and slash - Think a deeper, more complicated version of Dynasty Warriors
I have to agree with Bionic Commando, that would rock. I also must second Streets of Rage, and add that I would love to see Rock and Roll Racing remade, I friggin loved that game.
also loved crusader:no remorse and syndicate... never heard of bionic commando but looks cool. Other remakes would be "Cannon Fodder" something like that with co-op would rock. We just started on a project like solar-winds/freelancer in 2D with our engine, will see how far that goes. It is meant for LAN play mostly (not much lag compensation)...
for those asking for X-Com, there is a UFO remake based on modified quake2 engine http://ufo.myexp.de/ it did look solid and played well. (although I personally havent played the originals much)

Little Big Adventure aka relentless.
PLEASE!
gunship 2000
LBA RAWKS my pink panties
Wouldn't mind seeing a Heavy Gear remake either.
But how could we forget Jools and Jops? Cannon Fodder!
I heard Ea attempted a Syndicate remake a few years ago, but scrapped it...
we need a remake of boy and his blob .... now there would be some interesting 3d-openended gameplay...

Majesco did announce a DS version some time ago but it's still not released yet.
LBA doesnt need a remake, just a rerelease, its perfect as is

Well you can download winLBA and play it properly on any windows machine. You can even disable 'hit and run' from the first LBA. It's awesome.
BTW, does anyone who who loved DX 1 know of a similarly involving game in the same genre?
Kind regards,
Deus Ex 1 - Exactly same game but with better AI and graphics.

Martian Memorandum!
Rune. Although it's graphics aren't that bad. I would just like to see a new version of it.
RUNE rocked..we need a rune hack and slash MMO--with the same gameplay, just a whole world to explore with your buddies.

Postal 2 closer to DX than SS2? Blasphemy!

Moonstone
SuperCars
Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge
Tie Fighter
The Chaos Engine
Speedball
Xenon2 The Megablast
Didn't they release Streetwise recently? From what I read it's not a great game by modern game standards but it is a good Final Fight game.
Aces over the Pacific/Europe (graphics overhaul)
Kings Quest Series (more games)
Quest for Glory Series
Final Fight one for the GBA? Bad ass..
Another one would be Lost Vikings. I melted on my old 386 PC playing that :-).
@Asherr:
Um? I haven't played WoW... do they have Lost Vikings there? :-P
