Richard Hammond seriously injured after a carcrash

I am certain that there are quite a few people here to watch Top Gear ( a really well filmed and scripted British car show on BBC)

Richard Hammond has apparently crashed in a jet powered racecar while filming a segment for an episode, he seems to be now in serious but stable condition and doctors expect a recovery. Richard has suffered "significat brain injury"

Plenty of news and updates about it on Top Gear's web site, as well as a link to drop Hamster an email. Sounds already like he's gonna recover well enough. Here's hoping Top Gear's hyper lil' teeth-whitening sponsor (and fellow muscle car enthusiast) gets well soon and is back hosting with James and Jeremy in no time!

i'm sure he'll get well soon enough, and the new series will go ahead as planned, and you can be sure Clarkson will be there on the first episode with a call of "so, who wants to see Hammond's crash?", followed by a cheer from the audience and a "roll the tape". They'll never let him forget it.

danr.. the first question out of Jeremy's mouth when Hammond shows up back on the show is going to be something regarding Hammond's whitened teeth, I'm almost willing to bet on it... followed by some kind of jab at James being "Captain Slow".

my guess is that he won't get better. I want to be realistic about it. He crashed a jet powered car at 300mph and landed on his head.

Don't get me wrong, I love the show and go well beyond my means to see it regularly.

And if that is the case, series 9 is canned. Top Gear will be off our screens forever.

did he really crash at 300mph ? i thought that was only a telemetry reading from one of the runs .. it doesnt mean he was going that fast when he crashed .. and i kind of doubt he was ..

according to some newspaper he was talking and even walked himself to the bathroom .. so i dont know .. thing are looking good so far ..

Was watching the last episode from last season earlier this evening, and towards the end Hammond rolls the van he's racing due to a poorly judged turn. Jeremy and James begin to quip about wondering if he's dead (and if so, at least there's an Officer Stig on the scene), and how if you'd like to take his place, write to Top Gear, I'm a better driver than Hammond was!

I personally can't stand the idea of no more Top Gear. What am I supposed to watch instead, Fifth Gear? Ha!

The television industry (heck, the entertainment industry as a whole) would suffer quite a loss if Top Gear is axed. Say what you will about the show, the production quality is bar none one of the best I've ever seen.

I applaud the TG team for saying "mess with us and we're leaving". They'd have a worldwide fanbase seriously pissed off at the BBC if the show gets the axe.
