2 computers, Windows Live Messenger? Mac only?

A few weeks ago I switched to Windows Live messenger at work, but had to switch back to messenger 7.5. WLM doesn't seem to log me out of my home session when I log in at work.

There have many times when I'd send someone a message whilst at work, and get no reply, only to come home hours later and see their replies on my Messenger on my Mac.

Has anyone else had this happen?

I have no idea if it is a general Windows Live issue, or Windows Live not liking me having a messenger on my mac, but after switching back to 7.5 the problem is gone.

Hmm, that's very odd. I don't have the problem when I switch computers between my home (windows live on PC) and school (7.5 on PC).

MSN really doesn't like my Mac, it only really works OK in windows XP boot.

In Mac OS is logs me out continuously, and not just on this Mac, my previous Mac had EXACTLY the same problem. The only bugger is that I might be typing away to someone but 5 mins later MSN tells me that it's logged out and the messages couldn't be delivered.

Come to think of it, I've often had this problem on the PC over the years.

MSN is shite. Better than ICQ though!

use Adium instead of messenger, its nice, reliable and it has a cute jumping duck as its icon laugh.gif

I've used Adium too - and never had any problmes with that. It seems that the problame came with WLM on the PC.

I've mailed Microsoft, but I've heard nothing.

Update - someone left a message on my site:

"I’ve had this problem too, and I think it’s an issue between Live Messenger and the non-Live version. I’m currently working exclusively on Windows machines, and I’ve found when I log into Messenger Live, it (usually?) doesn’t log me off on another machine running an older version of Messenger. My contacts only see one of me in their contact list, but if they send a message, it only goes to one of my Messengers."

I recently had to reformat my computer because of Windows Live Messanger Beta. My wife tried to send me a file via Shared Folders. I copied and then deleted the file and within minutes my computer blue screened. Messanger was set to start with my computer so every time I would restart it would blue screen again. I didn't figure it out right away because the Blue Screen was was reporting RAM/Hard Disk errors. Finally in safe mode I turned off start up programs and it fixed the problem. I reformatted just in case.

But the program is still beta so you gotta expect bugs.

Well.. You could always use www.meebo.com at work. Its very good with a UI similar no messenger.

Hmmm... after hearing all of this I might have to revert back to 7.5 until live is more stable. Although I do find that I like Live more, and have yet to have a problem.

And my girlfriend has nothing but problems with meebo... hmmm. :P
