Hopefully it is just speculation on the part of shacknews. I'd like to see this game survive. Surely they wouldn't can it just because some key individuals left?
No speculation... actually they confirmed some of the departures.
I wish they would just sell the franchise already and let a forward moving developer at it. I need my ass kicking, buble gum chewing, alien frag fest fix, and I needed it in 1997...
forgive me if Im way off the mark but this broussard guy, seems to me the one fully in charge of the project, therefore fully responsible for failure to deliver, why has the company kept him on ? In another industry he would have been dropped lke a hot potato. In the article it says hes a perfectionst but not having a finished product at a specific deadline is well wide of perfection.. meh .. I think about all that work.. jumping engines and reworking all that stuff .. its insane... not to mention how much all that development cost ...
As far as the Dallas Game Development community goes, 3D Realms might as well not exist. They are off the radar of most of us who have any level of involvement in local community things (like the IGDA, Guildhall, events at UTD).
As far as the comment about Broussard being a perfectionist ... which is likely what is keeping it from being completed ... I will end with a quote:
"Perfection is the enemy of the good."
Gustave Flaubert
French realist novelist (1821 - 1880)
There was any question as to whether or not Duke was coming out? I thought we'd written it off years ago. This is more like part 1 of a late post-mortem. I can't wait for part 2!
Ohh! Ohh! Let me add some Enquirer type of low brow gossip. Some artist here or elsewhere once mentioned that 3D Realms management was fan of lines of the white powder.
It sure has been along time.
Which Duke Nuke Em game should I look at to see why everyone is still energized about this?
At this point I don't care if they release the game or not. I hope that when they reach a decision that they release a book of ALL the art that they've gone through for the last 10 years. All the design processes, all the shit.. starting from 1997 until whenever-they-decided-what-to-do. Fuck, that'd be sweet.
Hell ya Brome! They should just release what they have and call it a time traveling game, you travel from the Quake 2 engine to the whatever engine they are on now era!

I love how these games sites think they have new DNF news.

amirite?
'Some' sources? How about every gamer, game developer, and human being on the planet?
I reccomend this development process change:
-Make the game.
-Release it.
Aside from those key points, I think they have everything under control.
It sure has been along time.
