So what do you think guys?
And should I learn highpoly instead

    Welcome to polycount!

Lowpoly skills will always be needed, at least for portables like cellphones, psp, etc. But also for newer platforms, especially for LODs and the like.

Lowpoly skills like good edge-looping are useful for making good-deforming meshes for animation, regardless of mesh density. Smart UV layout, baked-in lighting, many lowpoly skills are still in use and will be for some time.

If it's just a hobby though, who cares? Do what you like to do and leave it at that. But if you want to turn it into a job, you'll need to develop strong art skills, etc.

    Hope that makes sense.
